A leaflet in English alone can't help shared decision-making when #Healthliteracy & #LanguageBarriers exist.
To counter this, @SimbaComics has launched a @SouthAsianHF-endorsed CoMICs on #PCOS in South Asian languages 🎉

Do you know the person in a Saree walking with Nobel laureates Julian Schwinger and Abdus Salam?
She is particle physicist TK Radha who had a brief but impressive career in the 1960s. After here PhD in IMSc, Chennai Oppenheimer invited her for a visit to IAS. She then did a postdoc with L. Schiff with Stanford.
Radha had written papers with the likes of Marshak and Schiff, and eventually received an Assistant Professorship at U of Alberta.
But she took a break from her career to care for her child and eventually dropped out of academia.
It was not the end of her academic story.
Almost a decade after dropping out of particle physics, she started taking computing courses at U of Alberta and ended at the top of her class. Because of her background, the physics department immediately hired her as a programmer.
For the next 16 years, she worked as a programmer, helping physicists with numerical computations. She would sometimes contribute her own ideas to their projects, which led to her being listed as co-author on several publications.
In a different world, she could have had a long and illustrious career as a particle physicist.

Major academic publishers are getting sued for unlawfully appropriating billions of dollars.
Prof. Lucina Qazi Uddin, a neuroscientist at UCLA, has sued these six academic publishers Elsevier, Wolters Kluwer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Sage, and Springer Nature.
The lawsuit claims that these publishers violate antitrust laws on the following three grouds:
1. The publishers have colluded to fix the price of peer review at zero.
2. These publishers agree to not compete with each by making it obligatory for researchers to submit their work to only one journal at a time.
3. These publishers prohibit scholars from sharing scientific advancements while they are under peer review, which can take up to a year.
Here's a comparison of the publishers' revenue and what they pay authors and reviewers
Elsevier: $3.9 billion
Springer Nature: $2 billion
Wolters Kluwer: $1.6 billion
Wiley: $1.8 billion
Taylor & Francis: $800 million
Sage: $500 million
They pay:
Authors: $0
Peer reviewers: $0

I was sexually harassed and assaulted by my dissertation chair for most of my PhD program. For >2 years, I navigated the labyrinthine Title IX process. This week, my abuser/former mentor was the 2nd prof in 60 years to have tenure revoked. Some things I learned along the way: 🧵

A professor who has dedicated years to research on pcos
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, known more commonly as #PCOS, affects 1 in 10 women in the UK.
At Imperial, you could be studying or working alongside someone managing the symptoms of this hormonal disorder.
Many women living with PCOS may go undiagnosed for years. From irregular or absent periods to weight gain and excessive hair growth, the effects of PCOS on women’s physical and mental health can be devastating.
We spoke to our Emeritus Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology, Professor Stephen Franks, about what PCOS is and how to spot the signs and symptoms. @ImperialMDR
