We’re relieved to hear there were no fatalities from last night’s shooting. Our thoughts are with those injured and everyone impacted by this senseless act of violence. Our incredible members are already working tirelessly to track down those responsible—and they will be brought to justice. @TorontoPolice @TPACampbell

TPA President @tpacampbell joined @CP24 this morning to voice the frustration our members feel as their hard work is undermined by a broken bail system. It is unacceptable that the suspect in this incident—a repeat offender with a lengthy criminal history, including firearm convictions—was on probation, bail, and facing multiple lifetime firearm prohibitions at the time. Once again, violent offenders are being released back into our communities, endangering innocent lives. This is not just a policing issue; it is a public safety crisis. When will the federal government take accountability for the consequences of its weak bail policies? When will they prioritize the safety of our communities and the efforts of our officers over the rights of habitual violent offenders? While we are thankful that our member and most drivers involved in this incident were unharmed, we are deeply concerned for the individual currently in hospital. To them, and to every family affected by preventable violence, we ask: What does Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau have to say? It’s time for meaningful action. Our hardworking members and the public deserves better.
