The paper also sets out EXCITE, a phase II, single-arm, prospective pilot trial of PolyCore in 28 adults with kidney failure on incremental PD, assessing safety, adequacy, ultrafiltration, solute removal, metabolic parameters and patient-reported outcomes.
The authors conclude PolyCore showed favorable in vitro biocompatibility versus icodextrin 7.5% and may represent a glucose-free bimodal strategy for PD; EXCITE will provide its first clinical assessment of safety and preliminary efficacy.

A 20-year single-centre case series of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia PD-related peritonitis in Hong Kong: 28 episodes in 27 patients, 21.4% medical cure, 28.6% peritonitis-associated death.

Relapsing peritonitis occurred in 9 episodes (32.1%). PD catheter removal followed in 15 (53.6%), and 12 (42.9%) required transfer to haemodialysis.
The authors conclude S. maltophilia was an uncommon cause of PD-peritonitis but conferred substantial adverse outcomes, and that early identification and sufficient duration of appropriate antimicrobials may help achieve better outlook.
