The "diversity" agenda wasn't invented by the left. It was captured by it. And to understand how, you have to read an Italian communist who died in 1937.
Antonio Gramsci, thrown in prison by Mussolini, understood before anyone else why the revolution had failed in the West. In Russia, the state was everything: seize it and you have it all. In Western Europe, the state is just the front trench. Behind it stands the real fortress: schools, universities, the press, the Church, culture. His formula: the state is "hegemony protected by the armour of coercion." The conclusion: before you take power, you have to take minds. He called it the war of position. A slow siege, one institution at a time.
Then came 1945. Two totalitarian systems went to war, and only one walked out a winner. Nazism was dead and disgraced forever. Communism held half of Europe, crowned with the glory of Stalingrad, and in the West it carried the moral prestige of the Resistance. In France, the Communist Party topped 28% in 1946. Universities, publishing, unions, intellectuals: everything tipped. Half of Gramsci's program was achieved without firing a shot.
And it held. Not because the ideology works: everywhere it has been applied, it produced shortages, gulags and ruin. But because an ideology that controls the schools and the press never needs to be right. Every failure becomes proof that it didn't go far enough. Never enough communism.
That's the mechanism. When the working class gets richer and stops being revolutionary, you need a new revolutionary subject. So you manufacture one. Class struggle becomes a struggle of races, genders, identities. The proletarian is replaced by the "minority." The framework stays the same: oppressors versus oppressed, and every existing institution is guilty by definition. Every cause is a good cause, as long as it weakens whatever is still standing.
And what is still standing? Christianity, the family, the nation, the idea that there is truth and good that don't depend on who holds power. The foundation that produced individual freedom, science, property, the entrepreneur. Gramsci already saw the Church as the pillar of the hegemony to be torn down. As long as that foundation exists, the project can't succeed. So it gets delegitimized. "Diversity" is the perfect tool: it isn't there to celebrate cultures, it's there to make one culture suspect, the only one denied the right to defend itself.
The craziest part is the alliance with Islamism. A far left that claims to defend women and sexual minorities marches alongside a movement that wants the exact opposite. Why? Because in this logic, anything that weakens the West is a tactical ally. But history has already staged this play. In Iran in 1979, the communists backed Khomeini against the Shah. A few years later, they were in prison or executed. The vehicle ate the driver. It will happen again.
It's not even a conspiracy. It's worse: it's a strategy that was published, theorized, and taught. You don't need a conductor when everyone has read the same score. The good news is that Gramsci also wrote the manual for reversing it. Hegemony is won back the same way it was lost: through ideas, through institutions, and through the people who build. Entrepreneurs, families, those who create value instead of redistributing it. The war of position runs both ways.
