We mark the recent death of sometime #Hull resident, poet Douglas Dunn, with this 1972 picture of his house 4 Terry St, with the car (his?) parked outside, proving what he says in his poem 'Removal from Terry Street': "There is no grass in Terry Street." @PLSoc @hull_libraries

Ach, what a loss. I lived down the road from Terry Street when I was a student at Hull, and he was so fondly remembered there. ‘I wish him grass’

I was sad to read of the death of the poet Douglas Dunn. A quiet voice, always a resonant one, probably still best known for his first mature poetry collection 'Terry Street', 1969, but 'Elegies', 1985, stands one of the great collections of the late 20th Century.

Very sad news about the passing of poet Douglas Dunn. He wrote many great poems in and about Hull. As tribute, here’s the film @PoetDeanwilson6 made about the him.

The new edition of Roger Lewis's biography of Charles Hawtrey has an excellent additional chapter where (amongst other things) he maps some of the individuals in PL's poems to the Carry On team. Hawtrey is Mr. Bleaney, of course.

I think this comes from 'The Whitsun Weddings'? I could get into Larkin in his poetry of the humdrum and ordinary.

Philip Larkin was born in Coventry #OTD 9 August 1922.
'That Whitsun, I was late getting away:
Not till about
One-twenty on the sunlit Saturday
Did my three-quarters-empty train pull out,
All windows down, all cushions hot, all sense
Of being in a hurry gone.'

"Annus Mirabilis" gets a predictable call out in the New Yorker's review of "Lady C: the long, sensational life of Lady Chatterley's Lover". Otis Redding's "Try a little tenderness" was also influenced. Hm? @PLSoc What Did “Lady Chatterley” Liberate?
