1. Time Horizon
Never invest money you will need in the next 2–3 years.
Equities reward patience — volatility is normal, compounding works only with time.
2. Consistency
Add to your portfolio every month without fail.
Skipping months breaks the compounding habit.
Treat investing like paying rent — non-negotiable.
3. Saving Mindset
Correct formula:
Expenses = Income – Saving ✅
Wrong formula:
Saving = Income – Expenses ❌
Pay yourself first; save before spending.
4. Understanding
Know what you buy:
Learn financial statements, accounting basics, and valuation.
Study business models, industry cycles, and competitive advantages.
Understand management quality: winners usually have strong leadership.
Learn about moats (defenses against competition) and value migration (how industries shift).
5. Position Sizing
Think carefully about how much to put in each stock.

If You Truly Understand This, It Will Change Your Investing Perspective Forever:
-Compounding is “convex on the upside” because positive returns don’t grow your wealth in a straight line; they accelerate.
-A steady 15–20% a year on a growing base means the absolute rupees you make each year get larger and larger. Small improvements in long-term return and a long enough holding period create huge differences in final wealth, which only show up if you stay invested for years.
-On the downside, compounding is “concave” because losses are capped at –100% on a position and each further % loss is on a smaller base, so the absolute damage shrinks.
-But big drawdowns are still mathematically brutal: a 50% loss needs 100% to break even, an 80% loss needs 400%. That’s why avoiding large, permanent losses matters far more than most people realise; the path of returns matters more than the simple average.
-Put together, this creates positive asymmetry: your downside (if unlevered) is limited to what you put in, while the upside can be 3x, 5x, 10x or more. If you size positions so one mistake can’t kill you, cut losers early or keep them small, and let your winners compound for years, your results become positively skewed: many small, survivable losses and a few big winners that drive the portfolio.
-Once you see this, you stop obsessing over short-term price moves and start designing your whole investing approach around three things:
1.Protecting the downside,
2. Extending your time horizon, and
3. Hunting for asymmetric opportunities.
