Ben, I write about the chances of Putin nuking Ukraine at length in Killer In The Kremlin. Putin won't use a nuke. Because... 1) The Chinese will kill him if he does. A nuke would cause a global recession and the Chinese need a rich West to buy their stuff. Xi has said: "no nuclear adventurism." 2) Russia is next door to Ukraine. The wind blows west to east. If he nukes Ukraine, he irradiates western and southern European Russia. 3) The Russian machinery, aware of 1) and 2) above will stop him. So your dark pessimism is not founded in facts. You are Kremlin whispering. I learnt Russian at school; was taught Russian politics at LSE by a professor who had lived through both Russian revolutions of 1917; befriended four members of the Russian opposition - poisoned, then shot; shot; shot; poisoned, survived, poisoned, died; met and challenged Putin to his face in a mammoth museum in Siberia in 2014. Please set out your expertise in Kremlinology here. If you can't, read Killer In The Kremlin. And learn to think.

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…

I’m so tired of hearing what Ukraine must give up for peace. Our land? Our homes? Our future? Why is the victim always expected to make the sacrifice?

Three waves of ballistic missiles have been launched at Kyiv by Russian “humanitarians” since yesterday evening. They used 21 missiles. Unfortunately, numerous sites across the city have been hit and damaged: ordinary residential buildings, energy facilities, infrastructure at one of the railway stations and the metro, shopping malls, and businesses. Even a monastery is among the damaged sites. Our emergency services are working at all the affected locations. Twelve of our regions came under Russian attack overnight. In Kyiv and across the regions, 34 people were injured, including five children. As of now, two people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Almost immediately after another round of talks, Russia launched a pointed attack. This means there has been no real change in its attitude toward everything that is happening. It is important to keep trying to find the right solutions to end this war. But when Russia responds to negotiations with ballistic missiles, real pressure on Russia is needed to bring about different steps – steps toward ending the killing. Stronger air defenses and the rapid delivery of missiles, the ability to destroy ballistic missile launchers, sanctions over the war – all of this must be in place. I am grateful to everyone who sees the situation for what it is and acknowledges the reality. The aggressor deserves to be treated accordingly. Ukraine deserves support. People's lives deserve protection. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine!

BREAKING: congressional intelligence committees say that they received an intelligence briefing that Russia has been waging a misinformation campaign against Democrats running in the midterms. This comes as Trump removes sanction on Russia AND turns on Ukraine. Yes… another Quid Pro Quo with Russia F-CKING VOTE!

Trump said: “When I’m gone, you’re all going to be broke.” Truer words have never been spoken. He has plundered, robbed and bilked the whole country for himself and his family. That’s what disgorgement is all about. Disgorgement—please practice this very fine word.

Thus is ACTUAL political persecution. If you can help her please do. I guarantee you all she didn’t commit a crime and is an American citizen. Trump had been trying to bring her down for a decade. I know because I was once, unknowingly a part of a plot to do just that.

UNBELIEVABLE: Russian state-run media is now broadcasting footage of Trump administration official Steve Witkoff calling Vladimir Putin a “HUMANITARIAN.” Yes, a HUMANITARIAN. Let’s review who Witkoff is praising: - Invaded Ukraine, unleashing a devastating war that has killed thousands of civilians and displaced millions. - Oversaw the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children, resulting in an International Criminal Court arrest warrant against him. - Presided over a military responsible for massacres of civilians, including atrocities in Bucha. - Devastated Mariupol, where Russian forces bombed a theater sheltering civilians, including children. - Ordered widespread attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving millions without electricity and heat during freezing winters. - Oversaw a regime responsible for systematic torture, rape, and other war crimes in occupied Ukrainian territory. Imprisoned opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who subsequently died in a Russian prison. - Backed brutal bombing campaigns in Syria, where Russian and Syrian forces repeatedly attacked hospitals and civilian areas. - Crushed political dissent, imprisoning critics, independent journalists, and antiwar protesters. And now, because Putin released an American imprisoned in Russia for more than four years, Trump’s envoy is praising him as a humanitarian. There’s a reason Russian propaganda outlets are broadcasting this footage. When the Kremlin can use the words of an American official to rehabilitate the image of an accused war criminal, something has gone terribly wrong. Putin isn’t a humanitarian. He’s a dictator wanted by the International Criminal Court. And the Trump administration just handed him a propaganda victory.

Baby Anhelina and her mom Inna were killed by Russia yesterday. Anhelina was just over a year old. Her mom, Inna Mariukhna, was a primary school teacher. They were in the park in Nova Vodolaha, Kharkiv region, when a Russian drone attacked. Little Anhelina was killed in her stroller. Her mom died of her injuries in hospital. Another girl killed in the strike was just 11 years old. Six people lost their lives from that Russian strike. All of them had simply been spending time in the park. At least 15 more were injured, including seven kids. Deepest condolences...

We suspected this was the reason Ukraine’s access to Starshield was restricted. But to see it from senior officials in this reporting is still utterly unconscionable. Let’s be absolutely clear about what this means. The Trump Administration deliberately restricted technology Ukraine relies on to intercept Russian drones and ballistic missiles. It made it harder for Ukraine to defend itself and easier for Russia to carry out its deadly attacks against Ukrainian civilians. They knew exactly what was at stake. They knew that more Russian drones and missiles would get through, allowing Russia to kill even more Ukrainians. And yet they went ahead anyway. This is a deliberate weaking of Ukraine’s defenses that only Russia will benefit from. It is a betrayal of our ally that this Administration cannot wash its hands of. The American people deserve to know who made this decision, why they made it, and how they can possibly justify putting more innocent Ukrainian lives in the crosshairs of Putin’s war machine. reuters.com/world/europe/ord…

"Surveys show that most Americans stand with Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia, view Putin as a dangerous threat who shouldn’t be trusted, and want to see the United States offer more assistance to Ukraine," writes David J. Kramer, Executive Director of the Bush Institute along with John Herbst and William Taylor, both former U.S. Ambassadors to Ukraine.
