We overestimated Russia.
We underestimated Ukraine.
For Russia, every day without victory is defeat.
For Ukraine, every day without defeat is victory.
Let’s just hold talks in Tehran. At least that way, it’ll be friendly fire.
The United States will mediate working-level negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi, advancing President Trump’s mission to end the war. Discussions will focus on post-war security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian efforts, and next steps toward peace.
Additionally, American negotiators will meet this week in Brussels with representatives from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the EU, and NATO to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, Europe’s post-war security architecture, and economic opportunities to support Ukraine’s reconstruction.
We look forward to building on the progress made in Kyiv, Oslo, and St. Petersburg toward a comprehensive, durable peace agreement that delivers lasting security for generations to come.
Why should Russia end its war on Ukraine when it can obtain new economic concessions to finance it, free of additional sanctions because of them and with gradual lifting of past sanctions?
Their air raid alert system isn’t alone in being hacked, compromised and cracked up.
Neither of the first couple had any idea. We know this because the president didn’t salute.

Which is why many have noted another frozen conflict with infirm or unjust borders sets the stage for the next war. Which can only be bigger, if shorter. Linking US enforcement of an infirm peace made by or in part by the US actually could lead to nuclear war.
I know we say speak softly and carry a big stick, but removing all the sticks and telling everyone to get their own and shut up about Russia’s isn’t very quiet.

For example, the great humanitarian Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin will attended the G20 meeting in Florida, December 14-15, arriving home before December 17, the date on which Russians celebrate their most humanitarian national day.
It’s very common for the world’s leading humanitarians to require more than 20 hours to fly from Moscow-VKO to Atlanta-ATL. They also famously fly the faster polar route when sending very high-priority humanitarian assistance to us.

All they had to do was ask him to tell the WH to tone down, well, every single thing the president says about not just Ukraine, but everything. Hey presto, very quick meeting.

Per TASS, Russian FM Lavrov arrived in the US for the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting, OCT 30-31.
Wearing jeans and landing at night, guess it’s his Halloween costume. Trick or treat.

Ukrainian pilots will soon begin training on French Rafale fighter jets.
The Rafale can carry up to 9.5 tons of weapons, which means more firepower and fewer sorties to get the job done.
Russia has never attacked or invaded a member country in NATO.
NATO has never attacked or invaded Russia.
Of the two, only Russia has a problem with all that.

"Within days, Russian soldiers poisoned their dog, an Alabai, along with all the other large dogs in Oleshky. They killed Liudmila’s nextdoor neighbor and raped his wife. A local butcher disappeared; no one knew whether he was also killed. Some neighbors were detained and beaten. Armed, masked soldiers searched Liudmila’s home three times, confiscating the couple’s Ukrainian passports and leaving them with no documents. And yet, Liudmila and Andriy stayed. They got a new puppy, also an Alabai. Russian troops started to move into civilian houses, parking tanks in what once were gardens."
Predictable and predicted.

But American firms want nothing to do with it. They’re very scared of the legal and reputational risk, industry sources tell me and @jstein_sun

Second J5 in a year. I know Lincoln fired five generals before Grant, but we only struck oil in 1859 and in 1861, Marie Currie, Albert Einstein, Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann hadn’t even been born yet. TNT wasn’t synthesized until 1863.
