VOTE MOTHER FUCKERS! 🚨 MAXIM PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST UPDATE 🚨 Well, bitches, we have a situation. And by situation, I mean I’m currently sitting at 14TH PLACE OUT OF 15 in the Semi-Final Wild Card round. FOURTEENTH. OUT OF FIFTEEN. This leaderboard is giving last call at a party nobody wants to leave with me. 💀 Here’s the deal: When this screenshot was taken, there were 5 DAYS, 4 HOURS, AND 52 MINUTES left on the clock. According to the contest rules, FIRST PLACE earns a spot in the Finals Wild Card round. Which means sitting pretty and hoping the universe notices my photography is not exactly a winning strategy. Apparently, talent needs a voting department. 🎯 THE MISSION: GET JOSEPH MORA TO FIRST PLACE. I refuse to let my photograph disappear into the leaderboard equivalent of a witness protection program. I need your votes, your shares, your group chats, your coworkers, your friends, and that one relative who likes everything you post but somehow hasn't voted yet. And let's talk about the prize, because this is not a contest for a coupon and a lukewarm handshake: 💰 $20,000 cash 📸 $5,000 in new camera equipment 🇮🇹 A trip to Italy 📰 A Maxim Magazine photo feature That's a serious opportunity, and I want a fighting chance to get there. If you've already voted, THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU FOR IT. If you haven't, darling, what are we waiting for? A personal invitation delivered by a gondolier in Venice? 🔥 VOTE FOR JOSEPH MORA. SHARE THIS POST. GET YOUR PEOPLE INVOLVED. I have a photograph in this competition, not a lifetime membership in 14th place. Let's turn this thing around before the clock runs out. Because 14TH PLACE IS NOT MY DESTINATION. IT'S THE PLOT TWIST WE'RE TRYING TO AVOID. 💋📸 🗳️ VOTE HERE: photography.maxim.com/t/N75A… Every vote matters. Now let's make that leaderboard nervous. 🔥

Sad, but true. Nobody is going to Control 40. Control turned 40 back in February, and Janet is still running the same concert formula she's been peddling for the better part of a decade. Now, they're filming yet another concert movie and expecting fans to pay premium prices and line up for it. Nostalgia has a shelf life too, and frankly, people are tired. Tired of the same old concerts, tired of the underwhelming shows propped up by the occasional jaw-dropping photoshoot. What people actually want is new music. That album she's been promising for years. Not another lap around the same track, and the ticket sales tell the story. The venue isn't even 40% full, all that blue on the seating map means every section is riddled with empty seats. That's not a demand problem you fix with a photoshoot, and Randy? I've long suspected he's been quietly cashing in on Janet's willingness to keep the machine humming while she refuses to admit that repetition isn't evolution. Michael fired Randy years ago, and that history makes the family dynamic worth a closer, messier look. Them two together and still not seeing Michael tells you everything: she's picked her side, and it's Randy's. Let's not forget the origin story, Jaafar came out of Randy's ex, the same woman who slept with Jermaine. That's not a family tree, that's a family pretzel on Jerry Springer. Then there's the AI in the promotional material. If you're selling a major cinematic event, leaning on AI-generated imagery hardly inspires confidence in the budget or the creative ambition. Are we getting a genuinely high-end concert film, or just another cheaply packaged nostalgia cash grab? Given the track record, I'm not holding my breath. Janet is a legend. Her legacy deserves better than another lap of the same old show dressed up as a major event. At some point somebody needs to tell her the truth instead of treating her catalog like an endless ATM. #Control40 #JanetJackson

Pedro Zamora died 30 years ago today. I’ve been thinking about this post for awhile, and I had hoped/assumed it would be a little more “celebratory.” Despite losing him, I was assuming that we were entering a time of greater hope.

As Elon Musk’s AI data centers expand, he’s reportedly offering to buy out entire neighborhoods in Mississippi, with homeowners expected to waive their right to sue over noise and related harms. Gas turbines are running around the clock, residents are reporting noise and pollution, and Trump’s EPA has been weakened by staffing and budget cuts. When federal oversight falls short, who exactly is protecting these communities? And here’s the cruel irony: if residents get sick from pollution, many rely on Medicaid for healthcare. Meanwhile, Trump’s sweeping domestic policy law is projected to cut federal Medicaid spending by roughly $1 trillion over a decade, putting coverage at risk for millions. Musk gets to expand his AI empire. Residents get pollution, disruption, and buyout offers. The EPA is practically useless when communities need protection, and Medicaid is being gutted when sick people may need it most. The DOJ invokes national security to defend xAI’s operations. But who is defending the Americans living next door? Apparently, corporate AI infrastructure is a national priority. The health and security of the people breathing the exhaust? An afterthought. theguardian.com/us-news/2026…

GODZILLA MINUS ZERO IS COMING FOR THE THRONE. 🔥 A reported 10-minute standing ovation at its Hollywood premiere. Director Takashi Yamazaki cites James Cameron’s ALIENS and TERMINATOR 2 as inspirations, taking the sequel bigger, darker, and more terrifying. The first R-rated entry in the franchise’s North American theatrical run promises a bloodier nightmare. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s American Godzilla movies can take notes. THIS is how you make the King of the Monsters terrifying again. SPOILER WARNING: King Ghidorah hasn’t appeared in the trailers, but that final roar has fans speculating. The premiere buzz? Absolutely terrifying. Insiders are already talking about potential box-office history. The King isn’t just returning. HE’S COMING TO DESTROY EVERYTHING. GODZILLA MINUS ZERO. November 6. Fuck Beyoncé! Is Jay-Z bringing Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Rihanna at his 2017 halftime Super Bowl show, too? The game falls on Valentine’s Day and airs on Disney’s ABC, so is Minnie Mouse making a surprise appearance, too? 💀 Let’s not forget, NONE of Jay-Z’s Hot 100 Top 10 hits are solo. Not one. His longest run at No. 1 came courtesy of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love,” while his own hit, “Empire State of Mind” is with Alicia Keys, that spent 5 weeks at No. 1. The man’s chart legacy is practically a woman group project. I wonder if he'll bring the Epstein girls 😭

From infamous graffiti towers to a downtown L.A. comeback. 🌆 Cleanup began in July, and look at them now! Looking fresh and clean. With new owners, the graffiti is off, and completion of Oceanwide Plaza is finally underway. After years of abandonment, the goal is to bring these towers back to life by 2028. 2028. Downtown L.A. deserves to see this one finished. 🏙️

📀 JANET JACKSON | RHYTHM NATION 1814 (1989) 37 years ago today, Janet Jackson’s landmark fourth studio album reached No.1 on the Billboard 200, climbing from its big debut at No.4 to the summit in just four short weeks and remained there for a few weeks. Produced and co-written with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Rhythm Nation 1814 transformed pop and R&B into something bigger than entertainment. Industrial percussion, funk-driven basslines, new jack swing and precision choreography became the soundtrack to a generation. The album spawned 7 Billboard Hot 100 top-five singles, including four No.1 hits: “Miss You Much,” “Escapade,” “Black Cat” and “Love Will Never Do (Without You).” Its singles campaign stretched across 1989–1991, an extraordinary demonstration of commercial longevity. Then there’s “ALRIGHT,” which remains my all-time favorite track on the album. That infectious groove, effortless swing, feel-good energy and Janet’s unmistakable delivery make it an absolute joy. It’s the kind of record that can change your mood before you’ve even finished the first chorus. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis understood the assignment, but the album’s genius went beyond the dance floor. Racism, poverty, illiteracy and social responsibility were woven into its music, videos and military-inspired visual identity. Janet made a socially conscious concept album that could challenge the culture and dominate the charts simultaneously. The result was a Grammy-winning, diamond-certified masterpiece that helped define Janet’s artistic legacy and set a new standard for the album-as-era. Thirty-seven years later, Rhythm Nation 1814 remains a blueprint for ambitious pop with a purpose. And for me, “ALRIGHT” is still that song. VERDICT: A landmark album. A cultural statement. A timeless groove.
