This should really be looked into, alot of rugpulls and scam isn't from the main project or ticker.
I really hope this is looked into by @Pumpfun, and as always DYOR before investing and protect your capital.
One of the major factors contributing to scams in the crypto community is the existence of multiple tokens sharing the same ticker.
When a dev discovers a good narrative and launches a token around it, the original ticker should be protected by launchpads, especially @Pumpfun.
Allowing other developers to create tokens with the same ticker makes it difficult for traders to distinguish the OG from copycats. This creates opportunities for scams and confusion, and can even discourage the original dev from continuing the project.
Imagine discovering a promising narrative and ticker, only to find 10 different tokens using the same ticker. How do you identify the original?
My suggestion: Launchpads should protect the first token to register a ticker by preventing other developers from using that exact ticker. However, similar variations should still be allowed.
For example, if the original @Pumpfun token uses PUMP, other developers could use variations like POMP, PAMP, or PUUMP instead.
The same principle should apply across other launchpads and blockchains, including BSC and Robinhood.
This won't eliminate every scam or rug pull, but it could significantly reduce ticker impersonation, protect traders, and give original projects a fair chance to grow.
