Swarming: given only noisy pairwise distances between drones (no GPS, no comms), can you recover the formation? Yup, but only above a critical fraction of measured pairs. Below it the graph goes "floppy". It's rigidity percolation transition. => demo : skal65535.github.io/SNL/

Claude doing its Claude thing...

I was trying to write a bzip2 validator with Claude. But archive decompression were exploding the RAM. Guess why?! Unchecked "subtle" bug introduced by Claude-code. With these kind of bugs sparkled everywhere, the vibe-coded future is bright... not.

when you task your AI tool to use prefix-increment instead of postfix-increment :(

Video people, time to snatch some very good video engineers, unfortunate collaterals of greedy capitalism!
Reviving this account to say: Almost everyone at Vimeo was laid off yesterday, including the entire video team. If you're looking for talented engineers, there are a few on the market. Sucks to see something I built killed by private equity in a technology company skin suit.

this page shows that, for a given RGB color, a full convex set of YUV values can be mapped back to it during YUV->RGB conversion. It's used advantageously in WebP during the YUV420 conversion and preserves the edges better. Also: skal65535.github.io/yuv/ skal65535.github.io/yuv/show…

i *may* talk about that during next month's Demuxed conf. in London. demuxed.com/

webp also exploits the spatial extension of the 'fancy upsampler' filter, but that's another topic (demo'd in skal65535.github.io/yuv/, tho)

dayum right we did.
We have improved @Grok significantly. You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions.

in the wake of 3DGS, the Triangle Splatting has made some rounds lately (trianglesplatting.github.io/). I quickly toyed a bit with them here: skal65535.github.io/trisoup/… => the blending function is a bit too complex to my taste. Maybe use some barycentric coordinates instead?

Although less useful than circumscribed circle, the inscribed circle has -imho- easier equations, esp. w/ barycentric coordinates. See: shadertoy.com/view/tXd3W4 (it came up in trianglesplatting.github.io/ triangle splatting, where phi(s) needs the inscribed circle. @rvandeghen)

Light version of @PierreTerdiman 's Zero-Byte-BVH here: skal65535.github.io/BVH/ The idea is to order the triangles as a binary tree by groups of 6 triangles, each group defines a bounding box to test. If hit, recurse both half of the remaining triangles. @DaKangz : WebGPU!

Him leaving is definitely a W at reducing govt inefficiency.
As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.

reading LLM answers to math problems reminds me of grading bad students' exams: runs in (logical) circles, throw some real knowledge nuggets randomly, doesn't answer the question. But it feels like 'maths'. meh.

Well, at least one domain -sycophancy- where AI already surpassed humans. Does it count toward AGI?
We’ve spent the last few days doing a deep dive on what went wrong with last week’s GPT-4o update in ChatGPT. Expanding on what we missed with sycophancy and the changes we’re going to make in the future: openai.com/index/expanding-o…
