Keep in mind, PlayStation's business model isn't purely a publishing play. First party exclusives also serve as ecosystem drivers, generating additional revenue through console sales, subscriptions, accessories, and software spending.
That broader impact matters when evaluating ROI, especially when Circana data points to Wolverine helping drive PlayStation hardware sales.
Judging its success purely on copies sold ignores the bigger picture.

South of Midnight doesn't deserve to be spoken about in this manner. It was an incredible and unique experience that I deeply enjoyed.
David Sears has done a DEEP disservice to his own game and the fans who supported it.
South of Midnight creative director David Sears said in a recent MinnMax interview that he was grateful Microsoft funded the game, but “in hindsight it was unsustainable” and he “probably” would have turned off the money tap earlier if he had been the one approving it. He told people during development that “this could be terrible” because one day someone would close “the money tap” and “that’s going to have really traumatic results downstream.”
This is exactly the Freedom Trap I laid out in July. Giving studios creative freedom while still staffing, budgeting, and scheduling niche projects like mainstream blockbusters, with no one willing to set boundaries or match scope to risk. Clip below is from that video.

A beloved American actor, Bill Nunn left behind an unforgettable legacy through his memorable performances in film, television, and theater.
He was best known for portraying Radio Raheem in Spike Lee’s critically acclaimed film Do the Right Thing. His powerful performance, particularly the iconic “Love and Hate” speech, became one of the most memorable moments in the movie.
Beyond that role, Nunn was widely recognized for playing Joseph “Robbie” Robertson, the Daily Bugle editor, in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, starring alongside Tobey Maguire. He also appeared in popular films such as New Jack City, Sister Act, Regarding Henry, Mo’ Better Blues, He Got Game, The Legend of 1900, and Runaway Jury.
On television, he was known for playing Terrence “Pip” Phillips in The Job and Cash in the comedy series Sirens. He also appeared in Chicago Hope, The X-Files, and The District.
Throughout his career, Nunn became a respected character actor, particularly through his collaborations with filmmaker Spike Lee. He also supported young performers through the Bill Nunn Theatre Outreach Project, helping bring theater opportunities to students in Pittsburgh.
Born October 20, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bill Nunn passed away on September 24, 2016, at the age of 62, following a battle with leukemia.
Though he is gone, his unforgettable performances and the characters he brought to life will continue to entertain and inspire audiences for generations to come.
Thank you for the memorable performances, the iconic characters, and the lasting legacy you left behind, Bill Nunn.

I've seen a lot of people frustrated that this isn't coming to Xbox.
Gears of War: E-day, a new game in one the platform's flagship franchises, couldn't even sell 500,000 copies.
Imagine how bad 3rd party games are selling. It's not worth it for teams to port to Xbox anymore.

God of War Ragnarok has sold 21.6M copies, as per @alineaanalytics estimates. It's sold 20.1M on PlayStation (75.2% via PS5) and 1.6M on Steam.
It's another PlayStation evergreen seller, too. This year, Ragnarok has already sold 1.1M copies, generating nearly $60M (68% on PlayStation), outperforming new 2026 titles like Gears of War E-Day and Saros.
Overall, Ragnarok has been accessed by 6.7M PlayStation Plus players (it was added to the Extra tier about two years ago). So it's performed that well this year DESPITE subscription cannibalisation. That's the pull of God of War IP. That Bautista Series on Amazon is going to be massive - bigger than Fallout, I reckon.
As mentioned yesterday, God of War Ragnarok has generated $1.4B, making it the top-grossing first-party PlayStation game of this console generation.
