Some pretty wild takeaways from today's electoral boundaries committee meeting: Lethbridge would be split into FOUR ridings instead of its current two urban ones. Three would combine city neighbourhoods with surrounding rural areas. Three urban-rural hybrid ridings are proposed along Calgary's northwest and western edges. Springbank gets split up. Kathleen Ganley questioned why the panel was citing GOLF COURSES to justify its boundaries. Okotoks and Diamond Valley would be split apart, with Diamond Valley paired with Banff. The panel's dissenting members say public submissions overwhelmingly favoured keeping them together. Ganley says Calgary and Edmonton ridings would average 7,000 more residents per MLA than ridings outside those cities. That's a 14 percent difference. The NDP wanted to put its concerns about the maps on the record. UCP MLAs voted 3–2 to end the committee's review before those motions could even be considered. The NDP also wanted taxpayers to know how much the panel and its outside consultants were paid. UCP MLAs voted that down too. Ganley says the panel chair gets an extra $5,000/month on top of regular pay. The UCP says the maps should be debated in the Legislature once they're public. The NDP wanted the committee to scrutinize them now. Meanwhile, Albertans still haven't seen the maps. The report is due November 2. #ableg #abpoli

Merit-based hiring? From the UCP? Are you kidding? Insecure leaders don’t hire competent people. They hire people who won’t threaten their position. The UCP has spent years pushing competent people out and replacing them with political loyalists. Now they want to lecture Albertans about hiring the best person for the job? This is about saving face with a base that has lost confidence in the UCP. With an AGM looming, court cases mounting and RCMP investigations underway, the Premier needs distractions. Meanwhile, governing takes a backseat. Affordability, healthcare and the issues affecting Albertans every day are left unaddressed. This isn’t about competency. It’s about political survival from a government increasingly out of touch. #ucp #alberta #abpoli #ableg #abtory #cdnpoli
The best person for the job should get the job. Period. Today we tabled legislation that would ensure hiring and promotion decisions in the public sector are based on merit, not DEI policies. Mandatory workplace training will be relevant to the roles and responsibilities of the employee, instead of mandatory DEI sessions. Every Albertan deserves a fair shot, and fairness means everyone competes on the same terms.

Here we go: Fraud, breach of trust and money laundering inside the GOA! Those are the criminal offences now confirmed to be under investigation by the RCMP in connection with procurement practices at Alberta Health and AHS. This isn’t speculation. It’s in writing, from a Crown prosecutor, in a letter filed with the Alberta courts. For nearly two years, the UCP government has tried to distract and avoid accountability but they can’t hide forever. I raised concerns about these contracting practices, and Albertans deserve answers. The government can continue to deflect and deny, but it cannot avoid a criminal investigation. Accountability will come calling. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli #ucp #alberta #rcmp #accountability

β€œPresident Trump has intensified his attacks on Norway, calling it a β€˜shithole country’ and declaring that Norwegian immigrants are unwelcome in the United States because the Nobel Committee, based in the capital, Oslo, failed to award him the Nobel Peace Prize.” There used to be one question that kept coming up: HOW? How did this walking advertisement for spray tan manage to get himself elected president not once, but twice? Objectively speaking, Trump is the least suitable person imaginable for the job. He is stupid, uneducated, vindictive, and consumed by envy. He is a vicious, narcissistic psychopath. He couldn't care less about anyone except his own reflection in the mirror, and his obsession with clinging to power has taken on manic proportions. But I've long since come to another realization: what truly extraordinary people those who voted for him must be. To willingly put an infantile little shit on your own shoulders, surrounded by an entire team of incompetent, servile lackeys, you would have to be deaf, blind, and possess all the wisdom of a brain-frozen jellyfish from the Barents Sea.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ TRUMP AND MUSK MAY HAVE JUST HANDED AMERICA’S DEFENCE INDUSTRY A MASSIVE CREDIBILITY CRISIS The controversy over Starlink and Starshield restrictions in Ukraine goes far beyond Elon Musk, Donald Trump or even the immediate consequences for Ukrainian forces. It raises a question that every country purchasing American military technology should be asking: What happens when equipment you have already paid for suddenly becomes subject to political decisions made thousands of miles away? The reported disruption of satellite connectivity in Ukraine has exposed just how vulnerable a military can become when critical operational capabilities depend on a private provider and decisions made in Washington. Accounts from Ukraine suggest that the restrictions interfered with military operations and contributed to equipment losses. Claims that lives were lost specifically because of the changes require further substantiation, but the operational risks are serious enough without exaggeration. SpaceX has long known that Ukrainian forces use Starlink. Its terminals have been essential for battlefield communications, drone operations and coordination under Russian electronic warfare pressure. Ukraine has even worked to identify authorized terminals and prevent Russian forces from exploiting the same network. That makes the timing and justification for new restrictions particularly contentious. SpaceX has previously distinguished between permitted military communications and certain uses of Starlink as a weapons-enabling system. But when restrictions change during active combat, the consequences can be immediate, regardless of whether the decision originated with the company or the American government. And that is where the implications become much bigger than Ukraine. Countries buying American weapons increasingly depend on software updates, spare parts, technical support, intelligence integration and access to communications networks. The hardware itself is only one part of the capability. An F-35, a HIMARS launcher and a Starlink terminal are very different systems, with different contracts and dependencies. There is no evidence that they all contain some universal American kill switch. But customers still have to consider what happens if essential support is delayed, restricted or withdrawn. The concern is not that every American supplier will behave like SpaceX. It is that political uncertainty can become a factor in military procurement decisions. Ukraine has remained an American security partner throughout Russia’s invasion. Yet its forces have repeatedly had to navigate uncertainty over access to capabilities that are central to their defence. For governments spending billions on American technology, that is an uncomfortable precedent. Reliability is one of the most valuable things a defence exporter sells. Buyers need confidence that their equipment will remain usable when a crisis begins, not merely when relations with Washington are convenient. If the United States wants its allies to depend on American systems, it must also convince them that those dependencies will not become liabilities at the worst possible moment. Otherwise, European and Asian governments have another reason to invest in domestic alternatives, diversify suppliers and reduce their exposure to American political decisions. Russia would hardly need to manufacture that argument. Washington and SpaceX would have made it for them. The immediate controversy concerns Ukraine. The potential commercial and strategic consequences reach across the entire American defence industry.

It Was All a Lie Β  According to Danielle Smith, a β€œLoyalty to a united Canada” was a β€˜founding principle’ of the UCP. However, documents fromΒ Β the Founding General Meeting reveal that while it was among 31 principles considered by the delegates, only 7 were adopted as founding principles and a β€œLoyalty to a united Canada” was not among them. Β  Despite her lie that this was a founding principle of the party, she has declared that it was the β€œreason” that she ran for the leadership of the United Conservative Party and that it was the principle she β€œused to govern (her) actions as leader”.Β  Β  In other words, her whole Premiership was based upon a fabrication, a lie. Is this what conservatives understood as who they were electing as the Leader of the UCP and, in turn, the Premier of the province? Β  With her mindset of a β€œLoyalty to a united Canada”, her β€œactions” or inactions as Premier now become understandable. She centered her election campaign on the Free Alberta Strategy document, co-authored by her current chief of staff and fellow floor crosser, Rob Anderson. However, while promising an Alberta Sovereignty Act during the election campaign, upon becoming Premier, she gave us instead the Sovereign Alberta within a United Canada Act, and nothing else that β€œmust be implemented”. We were sold a bill of goods! Β  Noteworthy, 7 years ago Danielle Smith told Jason Kenney as Premier to β€œact quickly” to β€œresurrect the β€˜firewall’ proposals’”, akin to what was in the Free Alberta Strategy document, in order β€œto stem the tide of Alberta separatism”.Β She didn’t tell him to create a panel to find out what needs to be done. So by her doing nothing in that regard, understandable in light of her devotion to a united Canada, choosing instead to be Canada’s doormat, she did nothing to stem the tide of Alberta separatism. Instead, as CW Alexander @alberta_cw has recently pointed out, β€œIn fact, what we want in return (as an overture to the supporters of Alberta independence to keep them loyal to the party) is exactly what lit a fuse under the army of Albertans to petition for a referendum”.

Zelenskyy: β€œTrump Is Demanding That I Surrender to Putin” Finally, the moment has come when we can stop pretending to be diplomatically polite, carefully choosing our words, and acting as though we are dealing with some sophisticated peace negotiations rather than the blatant coercion of a victim into surrender. For the first time, Zelenskyy has said out loud what many have long suspected: according to him, the Trump administration is taking steps that are forcing Ukraine to surrender to Russia. β€œI don't want to think that our American partners believe it is possible to end the war faster at Ukraine's expense. But that is exactly what it looks like.” Trump is demanding capitulation! Pay attention to that last sentence. No hysteria, no diplomatic scandal, not even an accusation. Just a statement of fact from a man who has spent far too long trying to convince himself that his ally really is an ally. And indeed, a rather interesting picture is emerging. Russia bombs Ukrainian cities, while Washington demands that Kyiv stop striking Russian oil refineries. Ukraine purchases American missiles for its Patriot air defense systems, but according to Zelenskyy, deliveries are being delayed. Restrictions on satellite communications are emerging, making it significantly more difficult for Ukrainian troops to conduct military operations. And all of this is accompanied by endless talk about peace. What kind of peace, gentlemen? Imagine a robber breaking into your home, murdering your loved ones, setting your bedroom on fire, and then a police officer arriving at the scene. But instead of arresting the criminal, the officer demands that you immediately put down your gun because the shooting is disturbing the neighbors' sleep. And, as a friendly gesture, he promises to help the robber get more gasoline. That, in my opinion, is exactly what American diplomacy looks like today. Trump loves to repeat that he wants to stop the bloodshed. A wonderful desire. Yet somehow, almost all his demands are directed at the country defending itself, while the man who unleashed the largest European war of our time is offered negotiations, economic concessions, and yet another opportunity to bargain. There is one inconvenient detail for Trump here. Zelenskyy cannot sign Ukraine's capitulation for the simple reason that Ukraine does not belong to him. It is not a hotel that can be sold together with its guests, nor a golf course that can be handed over to creditors to settle debts. Behind this country stand millions of people who have buried their loved ones, lost their homes, endured occupation, torture, and Russian prisons. Trump can put as much pressure on Zelenskyy as he wants. But forcing Ukrainians to voluntarily recognize Russia's right to determine their fate is an entirely different matter. The most disgusting part of this story is not even the pressure on Ukraine itself, but the attempt to present capitulation as a great humanitarian achievement for which humanity should thank the American president. Putin demands Ukrainian land. Trump demands peace. And Ukrainians are expected to pay the price for both demands. You know, history has seen deals like this before. They were usually signed by people who were absolutely convinced that someone else would have to pay the price. And every single time, there was some solemn gentleman announcing that he had finally brought peace to Europe. The only difference is that this time, Ukraine is still holding its weapons. And it has no intention of laying them down. Β© Valeriy Bochkov

Nine days to comment on proposed changes to a complex law? If Alberta Government wanted to telegraph how much it will allow its pet industry to abuse landowners and land, this serves that purpose. This law governs cleanup of well sites, facility sites, pipeline rights of way.
Albertans and all landowners! There are major and important changes being contemplated regarding environmental regulations in Alberta. The deadline for submissions is October 30, 2026. DO NOT miss your opportunity to comment. The last thing the energy industry deserves at this juncture is more leniency and regulatory relief! And keep in mind these changes will impact crown land as well. If you are an Albertan, you are a landowner!
