It's almost like earth was perfectly created for human beings, literally water falls from the sky and food grows on trees, but somehow we find ourselves trapped in a machine that requires credit scores and a 40 hour work week for existence.

Republicans keep saying Congress doesnāt need to regulate AI because Big Tech can regulate itself.
This is just another form of deregulation under Trump, where financial gains go to the top while the risks and losses trickle down to the rest of us.

šøDiesel was $3.63 a gallon when Biden left office. It is $6.27 today.
šøAmerica was not at war when Biden left office. We are at war with Iran today.

You can't blame the last administration for everything bad happening 20 months into a new administration that enacted tariffs, started a war, and kicked people off their healthcare to give more tax breaks to corporations and billionaires.

I was encouraged this week to see the leaders of the frontier labs agree on the need for them to slow down the pace of AI development. Given the stakes, itās a good and necessary first step.
Ā
But Iām even more encouraged by the growing recognition that how this powerful new technology develops should be at the center of our public debate.
Ā
Iāve been watching the progress on AI for over a decade now, and one thing thatās clear to me is that the potential impact of this technology is not overhyped. Itās also moving at lightning speed ā and even faster than those who are engineering it can keep up with.
Ā
Iām not an AI accelerationist who believes it will lead to some techno-utopia, and Iām not a doomer who thinks it will inevitably lead to humanityās destruction.
But whether this technology results in amazing breakthroughs in medicine, energy and education or unleashes huge economic disruptions, greater inequality, and potential catastrophe will depend on the choices that we make right now ā choices that should be made not just by the companies involved, but by all of us.

Last night, Donald Trump, our pathological liar-in-chief, said:
āEvery single promise I made to you as a candidate, Iāve delivered on. Iāve delivered on everything.ā
Really?
Well, letās go down the list.
Since becoming president again, Trump promised:
ā
$5,000 DOGE dividend checks. A lie.
ā
$2,000 tariff dividend checks. A lie.
ā
$1,000+ checks by repealing ACA subsidies. A lie.
ā
A 10% cap on credit card interest rates. A lie.
ā
āThe lowest drug prices in the world.ā A lie.
ā
$2 a gallon gas. A lie.
ā
An end to inflation āstarting on Day One.ā A lie.
ā
An end to āendless wars.ā A lie.
And now, after all of those lies, Trump wants you to believe that he will give every American adult a $5,000 check - but only if the Republicans win the midterms.
No. I donāt think so. The Trump Administration is not about helping working families. Itās about giving a trillion dollars in tax breaks to the 1% and throwing 15 million Americans off the health care they have.
Patrick Goode retweeted
They are never going to give you $9,000 to stay home with your kids. Just like you never got your DOGE check, tariff refund, cheaper groceries, $2 gas, a healthcare plan, or 600% off prescriptions.
At some point, being this gullible becomes a fucking choice.
Today's newsletter is the AI Hater's Manifesto - where generative AI fails technically, economically, and morally. From its ever-changing products and rate limits to its ever-increasing demands for trillions of dollars, LLMs exhaust everything they touch.

Life in the 2020s comes with so much dissonance and dysphoria because everyone knows this civilization is doomed, but itās not being acknowledged by any of our mainstream institutions.
We can all see everything getting worse and worse before our eyes in real time, but our government officials donāt talk about it. Our mass media outlets donāt report on it. Our education systems donāt recognize it. Thereās a giant elephant in the room with us at all times, and normal people are acutely aware of it, but the talking heads keep speaking as though everythingās going to keep ticking along normally into the foreseeable future.
We can all see the summers heating up.
We can all see that there are fewer insects and less wildlife around than when we were young.
We can all see that the western empire is on borrowed time.
We can all see that younger generations are having much more difficulty affording housing and life expenses than their parents and grandparents.
We can all see that technology has stagnated as capitalismās innovation-for-profit model hits the limit of how far it can carry us as a species.
We can all see the apps, search engines, social media platforms and tech services getting shittier and shittier year by year.
We can all see AI making everything worse and turning everyone into cognitive infants who canāt do anything for themselves while consistently failing to deliver what its proponents say it will deliver.
We can all see the people around us getting dumber, crazier and more miserable as we are pushed into dystopian conditions where everyone gets more and more alienated and must pay a monthly fee for the experience of connection.
We can all see that state authoritarianism is escalating in proportion to public discontent with the status quo.
We all know weāre in a completely unsustainable situation. We all know we are riding a bus with disintegrating wheels.
But it doesnāt get acknowledged by anyone at the top. The news reports are still about the latest celebrity gossip and whether the economy arrow is pointing up or down. The movies and shows are still about wacky and witty characters for whom capitalism is working perfectly fine. The politicians are still talking about culture war issues and the Evil Dictator of the Day.
It is taken as a given that our grandchildren will be living in more or less the same kind of world we are living in, when we all know thereās no way this is true.
The wheels on the bus are coming off, boys and girls. The ride is near its end.
Iām not saying weāre all going to die, Iām just saying this civilization as it presently exists cannot possibly be sustained. Immensely drastic changes are coming up around the bend whether we like it or not, either by a deliberate transformation or by some cataclysmic event occurring against our will.
Life in the 2020s feels so spiritually dissonant because we all know this is the case, but all the sources weāve been trained to look to for information and context are acting like everythingās perfectly fine. Theyāre painting a cheery picture over reality while every normal person is staring at the giant black cracks that keep appearing in the paint job.
Which tells you all you need to know about the competency of the people who are steering the bus. The people in charge are just going to keep driving this thing into the ground until thereās nothing left to save. If thereās going to be a world-saving revolution, itās going to come from we ordinary people who are willing to acknowledge reality, not from the oligarchs and empire managers presently steering things who have been blinded by the pursuit of profit and power.
We either find some way to get their hands off the steering wheel and take control, or we find ourselves confronting the future horrors theyāve been discouraging us from thinking about while they drive us to our doom.

WE MUST ADDRESS THE CLIMATE CRISIS
The last 11 years have been the hottest 11 years on record. The last three years have been the hottest three years on record. 2026 will be one of the warmest years on record, and most scientists believe 2027 will be the warmest year in recorded history.
This past year, Europe has seen four major heat waves, including the continentās worst heat wave ever that killed more than 10,000 people. In the United States, three extreme heat waves exposed hundreds of millions of people to dangerous levels of heat. Drought is causing some of the lowest water levels ever seen for reservoirs along the Colorado River, threatening the drinking water of 40 million people. Puerto Ricans are being forced to ration water because of extreme drought. In Europe, some of the continentās dryest conditions have caused major rivers to run so low that ships are running aground, nuclear power plants are shutting down, and historical artifacts that were previously submerged are being revealed. South Korea is in the midst of a record heat wave ā with temperatures reaching 108.5° Fahrenheit, the highest temperature in the countryās history. China, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan are all experiencing torrential rain and flooding.
As a result of rising heat levels, we are seeing massive wildfires across the world, including Oregonās worst wildfire season and fires in Washington state that have forced nearly 65,000 families to evacuate. Europe, France and Spain are experiencing destructive wildfire seasons that have forced more than 330,000 people to evacuate their homes. Portugal, Greece, Italy, Albania, Turkey, Canada, Morocco and Algeria are also experiencing destructive wildfire seasons.
This summer alone,Alaska, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and West Virginia have all seen record rainfall events. Weāve seen 1,000-year floods in Texas, Missouri and New York. Once rare, dangerous flash flooding emergencies are now a regular part of summer for tens of millions of Americans.
One might think that, in the midst of all of this, there would be major discussions in Congress as to how best to go forward in addressing this existential crisis. Not the case. Insanely, the president of the United States continues to believe that climate change is a āhoax,ā and Republican members of Congress are following their āGreat Leaderā over the cliff. Sadly, too many Democrats think that speaking out on climate change is ābad politicsā and have remained far too silent.
That has got to change. The simple truth is that we must forcefully take on the greed of the fossil fuel industry and the stupidity of Trump.
The simple truth is that we can create millions of good-paying union jobs transforming our energy systems away from fossil fuels and into energy efficiency and sustainable energy.
For the sake of our kids, future generations and the habitability of the planet, that is exactly what we must do.

I genuinely DO NOT get the endgame. If the plan ends with a ruined planet, collapsed economies, and no working class left to spend money. What are billionaires actually hoarding wealth for? To sit in a bunker with numbers on a screen that don't mean anything anymore? Like what is the actual point? š

Iāve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism.Ā But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. Itās stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. Iāve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnnās @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to āsmileā, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say āNo more.ā
Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldnāt! And neither should any of us. Itās unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.
