Funny how the province of Alberta must make a major debilitating economic concession just to win federal approval for an energy infrastructure project that Mark Carney publicly acknowledges is in the national interest. Is this so the Liberal PM can brag to his European friends about “decarbonized oil” in his application for Associate EU Membership for Canada? Alberta should not be conceding the climate point about the need for escalating carbon taxes and net-zeroing CCS facilities to help shrink the province’s carbon footprint—certainly not as a condition precedent for an oil pipeline that may never be completed. The one million barrel-per-day Pacific Link pipeline still faces a major uphill battle in the courts from BC environmentalists and First Nations groups, even though it basically runs parallel to, and through land previously disturbed by, the already-twinned Trans Mountain Pipeline. Given the new oil pipeline’s starting budget estimate of C$35.2-43.7 billion (C$40 million per mile!), it would not take much of a delay to destroy the already-challenged economics of the project. Just one American’s take, but I’m not sure why any long-dated Pacific Link promises out of Liberal-controlled Ottawa should change the minds of Albertans heading into the October 19threferendum on Canadian secession. @EnergyRealities @MarkPMills @TPPF @ManhattanInst @SFOF_States @Heritage @AEI @aier @4AmericanEnergy @hamminstitute @EPRINC_DC @petronerds @CFAinstitute @FIASI_NY @NYUStern @NYUSternCSB #energy #markets #investing #finance #climate #esg #sustainability #netzero #renewables #fossilfuels #oil #finance #carney #pacificlink #canada #alberta #transmountain #tmx Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney sought to strengthen ties with Alberta by designating a proposed oil pipeline to the Pacific coast a “project of national interest” wsj.com/world/americas/carne… via @WSJ

The sorry state of American energy policy under the Trump administration. South Korea, a political ally and important U.S. trading partner, is being forced at the point of a tariff gun to invest $54 billion in an uneconomic Alaskan LNG project that private sector U.S. energy companies have passed on for years. Why would any South Korean company invest in and/or source LNG from a greenfield Alaskan project that also requires the construction of an 800-mile pipeline down from Prudhoe Bay? There are various better LNG supply alternatives out there from a speed-to-market, shipping time, and all-in cost perspective. For example, new liquefaction plants on the Pacific coasts of Canada and Mexico would likely be quicker to complete, while planned Mozambique and Tanzania LNG export facilities in East Africa would be competitive in terms of shipping distance. LNG sourced from the U.S. Gulf Coast or Qatar would also be cheaper assuming the respective shipping bottlenecks for each can be successfully worked out. The South Korean government has not confirmed any of the details around this Alaskan LNG project so, like many of the previous deals announced by the Trump White House, this one is also likely to fade into the ether post midterms. @EnergyRealities @MarkPMills @TPPF @ManhattanInst @SFOF_States @Heritage @AEI @aier @APIenergy @4AmericanEnergy @EPRINC_DC @petronerds @hamminstitute @CFAinstitute @FIASI_NY @NYUStern @NYUSternCSB #energy #markets #investing #finance #climate #esg #sustainability #netzero #trump #doe #renewables #fossilfuels #finance #lng #alaskalng #southkorea

It has now been nearly 500 days (497 to be exact) since the Trump White House announced the kickoff of its nuclear energy renaissance in May 2025, and still there has not been one FID announced for a new large-scale nuclear reactor construction project (AP1000 or otherwise) in the U.S. Instead, we have gotten endless SMR spin, futuristic comments about fusion power, and a senseless array of government deals (U.S., Japanese, South Korean and counting) with Westinghouse promising more than $200 billion of investment (financing?) to build new AP1000 nuclear plants in the U.S. somehow, some day, somewhere. The U.S. desperately needs more nuclear generation capacity and a resuscitated domestic nuclear industry, so the Trump administration needs to figure out why U.S. electric utilities and infrastructure project developers/investors are not stepping up and committing. @EnergyRealities @MarkPMills @TPPF @ManhattanInst @SFOF_States @Heritage @AEI @aier @4AmericanEnergy @EPRINC_DC @petronerds @hamminstitute @CFAinstitute @FIASI_NY @NYUStern @NYUSternCSB #energy #markets #investing #finance #climate #esg #sustainability #netzero #trump #doe #renewables #fossilfuels #finance #westinghouse #ap1000 #nuclear #nrc #nuclearrenaissance #southkorea #japan

The Trump administration needs to reassert federal supremacy when it comes to national energy policy.

More war propaganda and oil market manipulation from the Trump administration. Centcom’s numbers don’t add up and certainly don’t foot to any third-party data sources. A billion barrels of oil over the last two months would equal 16-17 million barrels per day, roughly 80-85% of the pre-war oil volumes transiting the Strait of Hormuz. None of the maritime organizations (Kpler, etc.) that track the international shipping industry can corroborate this claim by the U.S. military. “Just say anything” seems to be the wartime motto of the Trump White House. #energy #markets #investing #finance #hormuz #trump #iran #oil #centcom CENTCOM: 1 billion barrels of oil moved through Hormuz msn.com/en-us/news/other/cen…

My latest opinion piece in Real Clear Energy (“This Year’s Climate Week NYC Will be a Hot Party for All the Wrong Reasons,” 9/22/26). Despite its recent admission of failure in preventing global warming from exceeding 1.5oC over the past 40 years, the United Nations will now spend the next seven decades attempting to lower average global temperatures “from above” and limit the “overshoot” between now and 2100. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the UN climate bureaucracy is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this Earth. But to be fair, all these state anti-ESG laws have also not stopped the problem of progressive ESG factors impacting investment decisions behind the scenes.

The Independent Review has just published the article that I co-authored with Mathieu Gomes in its Fall 2026 edition. Our piece, “Socially Responsible Investing: A Resource Misallocation Disaster in the Making,” discusses the fatal flaws in socially responsible or so-called sustainable investing and analyzes Europe’s current attempt to centrally plan its financial markets through its ESG, climate, and sustainability mandates. This controlled European market experiment is already leading to unintended economic and financial consequences through a misallocation of resources and a distortion of capital flows, especially around the energy sector. @EnergyRealities @MarkPMills @TPPF @ManhattanInst @SFOF_States @Heritage @AEI @APIenergy @4AmericanEnergy @aier @EPRINC_DC @hamminstitute @petronerds @CFAinstitute @FIASI_NY @NYUStern @NYUSternCSB #energy #markets #investing #finance #climate #esg #sustainability #netzero #renewables #cleanenergy #fossilfuels #emissions #carbon #eu #europeangreendeal #energytransition #sfdr #csrd independent.org/tir/2026-fal…

Don't worry. Data centers don't use a lot of water. That's just Chinese propaganda. Morgan Freeman tried to warn us about this in Oblivion.

The "Office of Energy Dominance Financing" sounds like something out of Monty Python's Ministry of Silly Names. Instead of carrying the water for President Trump and working the word "golden" into every press release, the DOE needs to start taking the lead on resetting U.S. energy policy on a sounder course. Otherwise, all of Trump 47 will be for naught. #doe #energy #trump

Another sketchy energy deal with pointless U.S. government ownership and few public details that doesn't make any sense on its face (see 2025 Westinghouse/Commerce Department deal, nuclear power). Nearly half-way through Trump's second term, all the initial promise about lasting fundamental change to U.S. energy policy feels like it is once again being flushed down the toilet, just like his first term.
