ALT Types of Grants The U.S. Department of Education offers a variety of federal grants to students attending colleges, universities, community colleges, and career schools. There are four different types of grants.

ALT Federal Pell Grants Amounts can change yearly: The maximum Pell Grant for award year 2023-24 is $7,395. Federal Pell Grants are usually awarded to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need. A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) You can receive between $100 and $4,000 a year. An FSEOG is a grant for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. The FSEOG does not need to be repaid, except under certain circumstances. These are grants you'll want to apply for as soon as possible as there are limited funds.

ALT Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grants You can receive up to $4,000 a year. A TEACH Grant is different from other federal student grants because it requires you to agree to complete a teaching service obligation as a condition for receiving the grant. Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants The grant award is equal to the amount of a maximum Federal Pell Grant for the award year but cannot exceed your cost of attendance for that award year. For the 2023-24 award year (July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024), the maximum Federal Pell Grant award will be $7,395.
