I told my boyfriend I was going to my friend's house.
I was actually going to his brother's apartment.
He knew.
That's what made the next morning so uncomfortable.
I came home at 2 a.m., expecting a fight.
Instead, my boyfriend was sitting on the couch watching TV.
He looked at me and said, “Did you have fun?”
I said yes.
He smiled and said, “Good.”
Then he went to bed.
I thought I'd gotten away with it.
Until I noticed my phone wasn't where I'd left it.

Employee: Enough to make me forget how replaceable you said I was.
Manager: …Can you send me a number?
Employee: You already sent me mine.
Manager: What do you mean?
Employee: You sent me a resignation letter.
Employee: I’m just giving you the same energy you gave me.
Manager: So you’re refusing to help?
Employee: No.
Employee: I’m available.
Manager: When?
Employee: Whenever the new contract says I’m worth your time.
And for the first time, the manager realized the employee had never been the problem.
The company had simply been paying too little for the one person holding everything together.
