It’s always a pleasure to speak with Peter Singer who is wonderfully open to ideas contrary to his own.

In this week’s episode of "Lives Well Lived," novelist @JoyceCarolOates challenges the emphasis placed on personality and the focus on celebrity culture. It is, she says, the work that is important, not the person who creates it. Despite her own remarkable achievements, she does not see herself as living well.
Join me and @KasiaLazari as we explore these themes and review the First Season of Lives Well Lived. This is the final episode in that season as we are now taking a break until November and you can find it, and all the first season episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred platform.

NEW: University of Massachusetts Dartmouth speaker Robert Hale Jr. gives out $1000 each to 1,200 students during their graduation.
The billionaire handed out $1.2 million in total to the graduates as they crossed the stage to get their degrees.
Here's the catch. The students were given two envelopes. Each had $500.
One envelope had $500 as a gift to the students and the other had $500 for them to give to "someone in need or a charity or cause close to them."
"The greatest joys we've had in our life have been the gift of giving..."
"These trying times have heightened the need for sharing, caring, and giving. Our community needs you and your generosity more than ever."
Hale is the founder of Granite Telecommunications based in Quincy.

We’re delighted to share that we received a grant from the Effective Altruism (EA) Infrastructure Fund toward our latest book distribution partnership with Booktopia in Australia. The grant helped cover costs associated with printing, packing and shipping the free copies, which were offered to all of Booktopia’s 3.6 million customers.
The purpose of this strategic book giveaway was to directly expose more people in Australia to the principles of effective giving, help build a community of people who use principles of effective giving as a core part of their decision-making process and raise more funds for effective charities.

Yesterday I very happily donated a kidney to a stranger. This triggered an altruistic donor chain in which 3 people received kidneys and so no longer need dialysis. My decision was heavily influenced by #effectivealtruism and is one of the most meaningful events of my life.
