I’m excited to share a new manuscript on Sirtuin6-nucleosome structure, a result of a great collaboration between @PetersonLab, Song Tan’s, and @valendraica labs. /1 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Very very sad news.
Just sharing another sad news with the scientific community. The Pioneering molecular biologist Dr. Michael Green, M.D. Ph.D., HHMI and NAS member from Umass Med. School, passed away today with a stroke. Dr. Green revolutionized our understanding of transcription factors. RIP

Finally published in eLife! “SWI/SNF senses carbon starvation with a pH-sensitive low complexity sequence”. We elucidated a new molecular mechanism by which cells detect and respond to pH-changes. Tweetorial (1/5): elifesciences.org/articles/7… With @alexholehouse @PETERSONlab

We found that cells that successfully reprogram transcription in response to carbon starvation actually have to acidify and then re-neutralize – transient acidification is key – and we found a molecular sensor on the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeler, remember polyglutamines?… 2/5

#EESGenomeInstability I am a bit biased 'cause I always enjoy INO80 stories even after finishing my PhD, but @PetersonLab gave a really fantastic talk today on how INO80 helps resolve transcription-replication conflicts! Check their paper here: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

3/5 Glutamine-rich low-complexity sequences (QLCs) are everywhere! And they are enriched in histidines! SWI/SNF has 5 such QLCs, but the biggest is on SNF5. Genome-wide reprogramming required pH-oscillation, the SNF5 QLC and its histidines. (@BrittinghamGreg analyzed.)
