Emergency Physician, (he/him), public health advocate, you have to kick in the darkness until it bleeds daylight…tweets representing NO ONE but me

While Albertans were focused on last week’s referendum, the UCP government quietly released its long-overdue year-end financial reports — more than 100 days after the June 30 statutory deadline. The timing deserves scrutiny. So does the delay. These reports are not optional reading. They are essential public accountability documents that tell Albertans how their money has been managed, where it has been spent, and whether the government has met its financial obligations. Why were these reports delayed, and why has there been so little public discussion about it? Albertans deserve transparency from their government, not just when it is convenient, but especially when it isn’t. Read the reports yourself and draw your own conclusions: alberta.ca/government-and-mi…

It's official. More votes were counted in Alberta's referendum than in any other vote in Canadian history, including all federal elections.

Danielle Smith will do and say anything to preserve her job and retain power. Truth and integrity are as foreign to her as loyalty. Danielle knows that #ForeverCanadian 500,000 petition signatories didn’t want a referendum and all questions on it were designed by her. #ableg
Danielle Smith throws Forever Canada under the bus, blaming them for the referendum: "If somebody doesn't want to put a vote forward, then they shouldn't start a petition campaign. If they're going to do that, then they have to understand that there are consequences to it."

I don’t believe ABs support denying a kid education because of their families immigration or economic status Just visiting my Lethbridge emerg colleagues. They have five new emerg docs who have immigrated from other countries… I guess their kids don’t deserve an education???
The ATA has released a statement calling for clarity on how the provincial government intends to use the referendum results to punch down on kids who just want an education. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli #abed

According to CTV, Elections Alberta has agreed with @LukaszukAB. Premier @ABDanielleSmith tried to blame Thomas but Elections Alberta has verified that the #ForeverCanadian Petition was submitted as a policy proposal #abpoli

edmontonsun.com/news/local-n… “I show up for a shift and I try not to look at all the pain and suffering around me,” he said. “Because it is unmanageable.” 100s of my Emerg docs across the province feel the same way... Our govt refuses to declare the ED crisis or to act!

Graham Thomson: "Smith is saying 700k Albertans signed different petitions to get this referendum going. No, the Forever Canadian petition, in other words, let's stay in Canada, got more than 400k people, but they wanted a vote in the legislature. Not a referendum."

Another critical point. We've had innumerable reviews. Mostly ignored. Used for political purposes: "We're doing something...." What we're lacking, is a way of holding governments accountable for delivery and access. Could the feds demand this as part of $ transfer?
Every single word Dr. Thirsk testified is true… But I’ve lost faith this govt will do anything meaningful coming out of this report Look at the HQA report from 2012… lots of great recommendations… ignored. Look at recent QAR review from March 2026 - accepted + ignored!

Premier Smith is simply not TRUSTWORTHY, and Albertans know it. She's keeps deflecting and misleading on the separation issue... And she's not trustworthy on healthcare! She's made promises she hasn't kept, and she keeps spouting random numbers pretending they are facts!

Thirsk said if “disaster” is defined as health care needs outstripping the available resources, “the patients in our waiting rooms are facing a disaster in our emergency departments every day.”
Superb reporting on this. Kudos to Warren Thirsk for telling it like it is. "There is no more low hanging fruit." We need to double medical/nursing enrolment yesterday. We need new hospitals. No more obfuscation. Edmonton Journal edmontonjournal.com/news/loc… via @edmontonjournal

No rest for weary democrats in Alberta this week. Next up: pushing back against gerrymandering. Here's my latest on what it is, why we should care, and what we can do about it. drjaredwesley.substack.com/p…

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said candidates, MLAs, prov and local board reps and candidates, must be on board with federalism. But Smith, when pressed, wouldn't say whether she would disqualify people or kick them out.

The UCP is a "grassroots" party. Leader isn't all powerful. According to UCP Membership rules, only the Executive Director may suspend/revoke memberships. The leader can only do so during an election campaign. Decisions are subject to review by the Code of Conduct Committee.

She could have done this six months ago and spared us the referendum, which taught us nothing that we didn’t know before.

I am still seeing pundits openly saying Danielle Smith “won” all 9 of her referendum questions. Maybe if you stopped looking at the final ballot counting. She’s actually now losing the 4 constitutional Qs. And will suffrageapp.ca/abref26/#q=7 #cdnpoli

This is the UCP's handiwork. Billions for chartered surgical facilities. Canceling new hospitals, like the one that Edmonton was going to get, first one since 1988 while population has more than doubled.
New from me: A doctor testifying at an inquiry into the death of a man in an Edmonton emergency room says stories like Prashant Sreekumar’s are more common than the public is aware of amid a rolling “disaster” in emergency medicine. edmontonjournal.com/news/loc…

Coming out of the referendum and Danielle Smith somehow floor crossing inside of her own party… The NDP are re-upping calls for a public inquiry into the “CorruptCare” scandal. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli
One year after the Wyant report, Albertans are still waiting for answers on the health contracting scandal #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli
