Chromosomal INstability causes chaotic cancer genomes. Making sense of this chaos was hard. Come sit around the fire and listen to our tale of The #17DeadlyCINs a gripping epic of mechanisms of CIN, therapy response prediction and drug target discovery nature.com/articles/s41586-0… 1/

Data mismanagement intensifies.
In the UK the number of cases rose rapidly. But the public – and authorities – are only learning this now because these cases were only published now as a backlog. The reason was apparently that the database is managed in Excel and the number of columns had reached the maximum.
Why spend €1000s on a #spectrophotometer when you can make one for <€5? Plans for 3D-printed cuvette holder with LED block, which with smartphone Ambient Light Sensor makes a high-performance, low-cost spectrophotometer. Also #Lego version! #PLOSBiology plos.io/2Xavjha

A new thread about a series of papers in legitimate scientific journals, all from the same author. These papers have all been peer-reviewed, but no editor or peer reviewer noticed a huge problem. Warning: this might make your jaw drop.

Our talented research support staff are the life-blood of our science. From technicians and research assistants, to HR and IT, over 300 earn under £30K and 20% come from outside the UK. We need them and this country needs them. #ImmigrationWhitePaper #TogetherScienceCan

I've been super busy in a science hole since I wrote this post which has nearly hit 16k views since it went online last week!!! Super exciting as it's something I'm passionate about and you should all get involved! #AcademicTwitter #scitwitter #phdchat hellobio.com/blog/public-eng…

As a longstanding member of @GeneticsSociety, I welcome this statement on ancestry & genomic diversity. Our research community has a duty to make it plain: attempts to use genetics to rank populations are based on fundamental misconceptions of the science. cell.com/ajhg/fulltext/S0002…

things have changed since my time, clearly haha.
@AlfredThumser of course, Cambridge is treating me well. Rushed off your feet with the return of students?
@AlfredThumser hungover and cynical? Or was that just me...
@Biochem_Thumser how quickly that scary facade is lost! Not a Dr yet but it's finally underway, I started this semester :)

@Biochem_Thumser wow, eagerness has certainly increased since I left. I do hope some of the undergraduates are giving you a hard time ;)
@AlfredThumser Christ, I barely even made it on a good day...
@AlfredThumser practical biochemistry, surely?
@AlfredThumser No, you were more of a squad leader in the face of overwhelming biochemical reactions. Yes all is well thank you, yourself?
