A bit sad to see the Fitzwilliam Museum charging for exhibitions after so many years of free admission to them. Perhaps inevitable in these straitened times, and yes there are some concessions, but not everyone will be able to shell out £16.

The Greater Cambridge Development Corporation publishes 158 pages of papers from its board meeting last week. As well as establishing a transparency policy, the board discussed some items which were so secret that they were redacted from the agenda. thecgc.org.uk/files/261020.B…

The Corporation's website promises that the agenda and papers for the next board meeting on 2 December will be published a week ahead of the meeting. Agenda items are likely to include "Project Eagle", whatever that is.

Just signed up to hear Martha Lane Fox giving the Bennett School of Public Policy’s Annual Public Policy Lecture on the topic “We’re all going to die! (Or are we?)” on 26 November. The lecture “will explore what AI could mean for the next 50 years” bennettschool.cam.ac.uk/even…

I’m sure this will be an interesting talk - as a software developer I often wonder what AI could mean for the next six months. Martha Lane Fox very nearly died in a car crash in 2004 so would perhaps regard perishing in a robot apocalypse as a bit of a bonus.

Tough choices facing councillors as costs for the Civic Quarter project rise. Officers offer 4 options: 1) Spend an extra £8.5m and keep the Guildhall 2) Rent out most of a refurbished Guildhall 3) Let the new unitary council decide 4) Sell the Guildhall democracy.cambridge.gov.uk/d…

Cost pressures also mean that cuts are being considered to the overall Civic Quarter project. A committee meeting will consider the options on Tuesday 3 November. democracy.cambridge.gov.uk/i…

In particular, I cannot imagine councillors being overjoyed by the suggestion that they should give up their members' room so that it can be used for extra desk space for council staff, and instead hold informal meetings in the café.

The city council election in Abbey ward in May looks to be more uncertain than expected, as ex-Green councillor Elliot Tong announces he will be running as an Independent.
I’m excited to announce that I’m running to represent Abbey as an independent in the upcoming city council elections 🗳️ I’ve really enjoyed planning the first stages of my campaign! Send me a message if you want to get involved ✊

The Hunts Post should never have published this. This is basically a story about someone going to the police because he didn't like the way the Chairman managed the meetings. The police investigation has no legs, the case will be closed within days - and we can go back to focusing on the real story - a Reform UK Councillor who is under investigation for allegedly submitting inaccurate nomination papers.

Apparently the site was built by a single individual. While it's clear that a lot of work has gone into it, AI-assisted development certainly makes this sort of campaigning website a lot easier to put together, and we are likely to see a lot more of them. zionismisnotracism.co.uk/who…
