12 jail employees fired after 18-year-old Atiyana Willis dies in Arkansas custody on September 22, 2026, after suffering an untreated medical emergency inside the Greene County Detention Center in Paragould, Arkansas.
Sheriff Brad Snyder reviewed jail surveillance footage and determined that employees had failed to provide the assistance and supervision required of them. Twelve jail employees were subsequently fired.
Among those dismissed were jail administrator Jacob White and Lieutenant Bryan Alspaugh, both accused of supervisory failures. Records also reveal that Alspaugh had previously been reprimanded for interfering with a medical provider's order to transport another prisoner to a hospital.
Nine employees were fired September 30, followed by three more October 14.
Willis was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 12:01 p.m. Her precise medical cause of death has not been publicly established.
Her estate has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging failures in medical care, supervision and training.
