Today marks 1 year of joining Shopify. The shift from startups to a large public company has been a thrilling learning adventure, but exciting as hell.
- Things move slow
- Bureaucratic process everywhere
- Decisions take forever
That's what I was warned it would be like. But here's how it actually is:
- Things move as fast as how great something can be
- Process is constantly questioned and trimmed
- Decisions are simply a DM away
Big things are happening and I'm excited about what's to come. This morning I joined @ridd_design for another dive club episode to talk about my experience in all this, and I'm so stoked to share our chat when it comes out in a few weeks.
Happy 1 year, Shopify. Thanks for having me around.
The team behind @inflight has been working on feedback for prototypes for a while, excited it's finally out!
Missed opportunity for the agent bot apps to use the accelerometer to have the cute little eyes move around toward the user as the device tilts.
Found out why $NKE is down.
Even the brand guidelines should say not to do that with the logo.
This week was one of the best of my career. Shopify is going through quite a moment and this week felt transformative. The excitement in the quality and velocity is palpable.
Someone said: "This week has felt like working at the company I've always wished I could work at."
Today an engineer went to make a change that when his agent started working, stopped to let him know that I already have PR's in place to make the same change he requested. My agent loop had proactively handled it, and his checked for this before starting.
I love this timeline.
Tell your founders the truths that others are afraid to say. It's hard, but you need to protect the environment, culture, and mission you're a part of, especially when the majority has learned to accept "good enough".
They can't fix what nobody else is willing to call out.
Ben and @ustinKnight and team have been sweating the details on this for a while now. So excited to see this get shipped. Big, big fan of these guys.
When I built @kotn’s first store 12 years ago, I knew how to code and it still took me two weeks just to get to something OK, years to get to something I liked.
We built the tool I wish I had back then. Here’s Canvas.
Built by a bunch of hardcore builders who care ALOT.
Go get em, @joebell_ and @alvish. It’s looking super, super good, fam.
We believe that software doesn’t close deals. You do.
Excited to introduce Operate, the collaborative AI tool built for frontier sales teams.
TLDR; Rethought from the ground up, we connect your whole sales stack (CRM, calls, inbox, and more) to surface where every deal stands and what’s next.
Sales leaders get a forecast they trust and don’t have to DM their reps on Slack for status updates and data hygiene issues. Sales reps can stay out of the CRM and the tedious toil of admin.
We’re working with growing sales teams (3-50 reps) on making AI actually effective for sales including mapping the pipeline, routing to agents/deterministic paths, implementing real workflows, and tracking goal progress.
If this resonates, sign up to the waitlist. If you are a good fit, the form will redirect so you can schedule a chat with one of our co-founders.
This was the first thing I was aimed at when joining Shopify. Proud to have been a part of it. Some of this WIP I had shared on here, and much of it is now live. Huge congrats to the team on getting it across the line.
We’re certainly not done, but now we’re even better.
Massive thanks to @BrixtonForged for these gorgeous custom forged lightweight wheels for the track car. Their signature script on the outer lip is such a beautiful little detail.
Can’t wait to get some new rubber on these and thrash them around!
Video games need an ai voice mode on hotkey so that settings can be changed on the fly.
Press key:
"Mute BasementDweller42069 for me"
"The push to talk on T isn't working"
"Turn the menu music down"
"Bump my sens up a hair"
etc
Pretty, pretty plz.
