As the director for MOTHER: Encore, I think the issue with Oddity is the pressure to deliver on the expectations people have from it, despite not having the resources to achieve it. It's an issue of perfectionism, and not knowing when something is "good enough". (thread)

I assume a lot of its developers are fully grown adults now, with real jobs and rent to worry about. It's not like they can work on it full time, especially since they want to keep doing it for free and in their free time.

I've been following Oddity/MOTHER 4 since I was like around 10 years old, and I'm 20 now. Some of the stuff within Encore is even inspired by Oddity itself. It feels surreal to realize that the game that inspired you doesn't really exist in its current state.

I think if anyone still waiting for Oddity really wants to see a game like it that will actually come out, they should check out DREAMTONE. It's got a demo out on Steam already, and it's very much inspired by Oddity while still doing its own thing.
