The long tradition of early modern #playreading at the Institute continues! Here we are, cosily ensconced against the dark and cold, reading the gory and metrically-interesting delight that is #Heywood's #Thyestes 🩸🗡️🦵🍽️ – at Stratford-Upon-Avon, England

This is how Shakespeare & John Fletcher depict the resignation an Archbishop. From 'All is True' ('King Henry VIII'), 3.2.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Timothy West
We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to Timothy’s family and friends – in particular to his wife Prunella and children, including Samuel, who is an Associate Artist and will play Malvolio in Twelfth Night

Cannot overstate how fun this is. Shoutout to M Wiggins who would writhe on the floor at appropriate early modern death scenes, spectacularly & comically, done in by burning crown or poisoned skull.Once had the room in tears with trembling child voice 'He hath killed me, Mother'.
Play readings at the #Shakespeare Institute - what a beautiful and cosy thing to do as the days get shorter and colder! 📖 🍂

#Theatre people/#Shakespeers, asking for a friend, what are all the calamitous things that have happened to you or others during live performances? (Bonus points if they have involved the Scottish play and related curses.)

Research suggests Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus may have been co-written by a ‘forgotten’ dramatist. Dr Darren Freebury-Jones names Henry Porter as likely co-author of the 1604 play after linguistic clues in his surviving work. @Freeburian #ChristopherMarlowe

Barry Hines, A Kestrel for a Knave (1968):
It's seldom read or taught now in schools?
However, I've recently used extracts from the film and the novel with students aged 13-16 and they've loved it!

Replying to @RodneyMarshall1
David Bradley: The film-makers decided not to go to drama school but instead to secondary moderns for the child actors. My only experience was doing several pantos at school. About 120 kids from local schools auditioned for various roles. The film was the talk of the town.
