Everyone talks about how the Hornets sold high on LaMelo when in reality it was the Timberwolves selling high on Naz 😭

This year has given me a newfound understanding of Lavar Ball because if my son was LaMelo Ball I would also never shut up about it

We will never recover from this lol
Here’s the truth:
1. The organization didn’t believe in LaMelo Ball. They didn’t believe that he could be the face of a championship-caliber franchise. They didn’t believe he embodied enough of “Hornets DNA (selfless, resilient, hard-working, high IQ).” They didn’t believe he was a max player. They didn’t believe in his health. They didn’t believe in his ability to play through physicality or that he could lead this franchise through the playoffs.
2. The plan was always to trade LaMelo Ball. The organization (Peterson, Schnall, Plotkin) had a plan and perfected it. They did not allow one season of exceeding expectations to change that plan. Due to health, coming into the season LaMelo had negative trade value. This season was all about keeping LaMelo healthy and flipping his trade value. The org did everything in its power to monitor minutes, b2b, and even experimented with Ball off of the bench. Winning wasn’t the priority, as we saw early on. It was keeping LaMelo healthy for the eventual flip.
3. Peterson traded for LaMelo’s replacement when everyone else thought it was to bolster depth. Coby White wasn’t just an upgrade over Collin Sexton, but the eventual LaMelo Ball replacement. As soon as LaMelo’s trade value was a net positive, he would be flipped and the next starting point guard for the Charlotte Hornets was already in the building. Peterson was thinking steps ahead.
Max player. Never made the playoffs. Smacked in three separate play-ins. Healthy once out of the last four seasons. Trade value at a high. Replacement in the building at half the price. Flexibility moving forward. Not falling for fool’s gold this past season. Jeff Peterson made the move.
The Charlotte Hornets are moving on without LaMelo Ball.

Tough place to be as a Hornets fan rn, it’s hard to even enjoy the players and things I’m looking forward to because the whole situation is bleak. 3-1 to start and then 6 straight losses with just the worst emotional context imaginable surrounding the team. Getting booed in the home opener, the Naz benching thing, Kon being hurt again immediately, Miller sucking right after securing the bag, trading away LaMelo hanging over everyone’s head…
I feel bad for the rookies, I think they most likely felt they just walked into a shit storm on their first day with the team, and I’m genuinely excited to see those guys (and McNeeley) play but in a supplemental role in the rotation, not thrown in out of necessity or put in because the other team has a 25+ point lead. The Celtics had a 20 point lead after the 1st quarter(!!!!!) and the score at halftime was 70-39 🤢.
I also feel bad for the people paying for tickets and witnessing a murder on your home court every night. According to @bball_ref the Hornets are 5th in attendance this season…Charlotte/the Carolinas deserve better.

The entire room is preaching sustained success. Not one person in the Hornets front office thought maybe it’s not a good idea to trade a superstar under 25 for a glorified bench player. Why would you think the Timberwolves were so ready to pull the trigger? Everyone in that room does not need to be there next year. Like who are they to even make such a detrimental decision to the city.

The Hornets went from one of the most exciting teams in the nba with one of the best offenses in the league to this. Jeff Peterson has a lot of explaining to do, cuz this team right now is one of the worst products I’ve seen in Charlotte and that is saying A LOT.

You think Minnesota would trade Melo for Naz Reid, a 1st, 3 1st Rd Pick Swaps and 3 2nd Round picks? They can keep Josh Green frfr

I concede on the optimism with the Charlotte Hornets. Y’all were right. I was wrong. I will own it and bend knee.
Historically bad basketball and there’s no excuse for it anymore. Won’t try to create one and won’t try to argue anything. Team was on such a high trajectory last season after decades of losing. Fans even tried getting into it this year despite the controversial decisions.
Hornets fans should be pissed off at the product we’re getting. There’s no excuse for it.
Showing to be a really, really bad trade and a lack of respect for the fans and city that the team represents.
