I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone I am an aging idiot game industry burnout making an indie game very slowly, who also happens to post about politics and philosophy in case that was not clear.
Dude not a single kid came to my house for candy but the boy and his buddies returned from the neighborhood with full bags.
The only other kids from the neighborhood they saw were DRIVING to another neighborhood.
We need to ban cars and trunk or treat they are ruining halloween

I just want to dual wield shields man I can dual wield fucking 7 foot long broadswords in your game but somehow shields are off limits fuck you.
Game mechanics that sound cool until you actually add them to a game and have to play the game:
Action based skill upgrades - This is just xp grinding with even more annoying steps.
Random crafting outcomes - Oh cool gathering to make literal garbage.
cont👇
Player controlled economy - Players are very good at controlling player controlled economies. You do not actually want players who are good at this to control the economy. Profit incentivizes making the game harder to play for other players.
You have no idea how few "bad for you" things matter if you can simply afford to go to the doctor regularly.
Modern medicine is actually insanely good, but its benefits are invisible to the majority because they or their government deems their health not worth the cost.
We are not obligated to maximize our value to society.
The entire project of civilization is to create systems that maximize their value to us.
People are not components of a great more important machine. The machine exists to serve, not be obeyed.
Sam Altman is actually right about this, and most people are missing the bigger picture.
Think about how much RAM sits unused in hundreds of millions of personal computers every single day. People buy machines with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of RAM, yet most of that capacity is barely utilized for much of the day.
Meanwhile, AI research, scientific computing, and cloud infrastructure are competing for the same limited global supply of memory.
From an economic perspective, this is an incredibly inefficient allocation of resources.
In a data center, memory can be pooled, shared, and continuously utilized by thousands of workloads. Instead of expensive hardware sitting idle for most of its lifespan, that same capacity can support services used by millions of people.
Higher utilization means more computing output from the same physical resources, potentially lower costs per workload, and less pressure to manufacture additional hardware.
This doesn't mean everyone should give up owning a computer. Local computing still matters for privacy, independence, latency, and offline access.
But the fundamental principle is correct: maximizing individual ownership of scarce hardware isn't necessarily the same thing as maximizing its usefulness to society.
The future of computing isn't just about who owns the most powerful hardware. It's about how efficiently we use the hardware humanity already has.

Carmen Sandiego but in stead of the eiffel tower and the sphinx she just steals websites and now you have to answer a complicated set of compsci riddles to log in to your AWS account or github.
aw fuck man I gotta go to more riots in major urban centers
why do people bother stealing catalytic converters when there are unmanned vehicles driving around with 150k+ in GPUs

Waymo robotaxis do not contain H100 or equivalent high-value data center GPUs. They use custom low-power 5nm ASICs for front-end sensor processing plus partner automotive CPUs/GPUs/accelerators in a redundant onboard system.

I'm well aware AI won't be going away due to the bubble bursting, nor do I want it to. What I want is the insane computing power of AI to stop being wasted on stupid venture capitalists and be put to work dismantling the obligate heirarchy of modernity.
A lot of people want to have sex, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have monogamy, but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to monopolize scare genitals that only fuck you 5% of the time.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”
We were so close.
🚨🇺🇸 Anthropic model weights allegedly exposed through misconfigured AWS S3 bucket
An actor using the handle "localizer" claims to have obtained a 7 GB shard of Anthropic's alleged "Claude Fable 5" model weights from a misconfigured AWS S3 bucket associated with Amazon Bedrock.
The actor claims the complete model consists of 640 shards totaling approximately 8 TB, but says only one shard was retrieved before access was restricted.
Screenshots showing a .safetensors file, model metadata, and a hexadecimal dump have been published as alleged proof. The actor is now offering the material for sale.
Claim is currently unverified. The authenticity of the files and their connection to Anthropic have not been established.

The model shown here is not a Claude model, but DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. This can be verified by the fact that the file sizes match those of DS V4.1 1017. The screenshot also includes "eu-north-1," even though it does not host Fable.
