“deport all illegal immigrants except for my low-skilled co-religionist who also almost certainly committed immigration fraud” is an incredible bit, would make for an above-average Babylon Bee joke
I really do love how an appeal to help Samuel’s wife and kids got picked up by the internet retardosphere and misrepresented as some sort of call to flout U.S. immigration law.
We all support ICE and the law. If the law is broken, there should be consequences. Samuel would agree.

now that the full magnitude of affirmative action preferences pre-SFFA have been revealed, it’s also clear that elite universities (and particularly Harvard) engaged in a very nasty libel towards their Asian applicants with regards to their personal qualities
Asian-Americans in Harvard’s Incoming Class More Than Double, to 43.2 Percent
Newly released data on the Harvard College class of 2030 say the class is 43.2 percent Asian-American, a record high and more than double the level when Students for Fair Admissions first sued Harvard alleging racial discrimination in admissions.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2023 that Harvard was unlawfully using race as a factor in admissions. Since then, the numbers of Hispanic and black students in the incoming Harvard classes have dipped, while the numbers of Asian-Americans have soared.
moreover, they are responsible for permanently making the position of “should you treat Asian students the same as other students” a right-coded one, further encouraging casual racism towards high-achieving Asians on the left (see e.g. the Stanley Zhong discourse)
A WNBA finals elimination game is being simulcast on Syfy at 9:30 AM PT, and if the series ends the championship celebration will be moved to a practice court so the arena can be prepped for the NBA team’s game that evening
this has to happen, the perfect coda to this season
progressive educators are fundamentally dishonest people.
many believe their dishonesty is justified because it is in the service of some greater good, others do it out of clear self-interest, but in aggregate they are just very clearly bad-faith actors.

sometimes you watch a video of a professional athlete playing a different sport and instantly recognize their natural athleticism, like Steph Curry swinging a golf club or Myles Garrett dunking a basketball
this is not one of those videos
University of Chicago sociology professor (“colonialism and post-colonial thought)” says Jason Arday cleared of plagiarism while offering the most obvious AI slop garbage article imaginable as proof.
How can you take these people seriously about literally any topic?
Replying to @BellRibeiroAddy @alex_callinicos
Latest analysis by Taylor & Francis also clears Arday: no plagiarism. emeraldbook.org/news/oct-232…

the short answer is that applied math (in modern academia) is mostly fake and a dumping ground for things like mathematical biology which are uninteresting to most mathematicians and biologists; interesting mathematics around physically-inspired problems is mostly pure math
not that it matters for long, but the correct equilibrium is where many major tech companies are already at: almost everyone in office 3+ days/week, very senior tenured people (L7+ typically) can request remote but even then with some scrutiny, almost all new hires in-office
The Yitang Zhang case is very obviously a black mark on mathematics as a whole and should cause you to update negatively in the direction of whether it is a “pure meritocracy”
This is the exact opposite interpretation of what actually happened. The case of Yitang Zhang perfectly illustrates how mathematics culture, at its best, is a pure meritocracy. Regardless of how “unknown” you may be, write a paper that proves a longstanding problem and we will read it, and if it’s right, then you will be instantly recognized as a hero by the community.
This part of mathematics may now be gone forever (due to AI), and this is very sad; this is one aspect of what so many of us are mourning, even as we look with awe at all the amazing discoveries we’ve already been gifted and many more sure to come.
