Replying to @taniabassett @NotThatBigIan
Not the private sector letting down the Probation Service and the whole justice system? There is a long chequered history here and perhaps it's time Probation takes over the management of electronic monitoring.

Watch this it’s fascinating - I asked James Timpson what he’d do about prisons and sentencing if he was in charge. He believes only a third of prisoners in jail should definitely be there. He’s now in charge of prisons (but not sentencing).

This is a time-honoured strategy to distract attention from the deeply harmful crimes of the powerful by pretending that poor people are the problem. The state can carry on unchallenged and bully the powerless.
So, @ukhomeoffice will introduce compulsory jail terms for repeat shoplifters, says @thetimes
Many shoplifters steal because they can’t afford to buy. Prison will make their situation worse.
If there is a deterrent, it’s being caught, not the penalty.

Of course @MarvinJRees as been shortlisted as World’s Best Mayor - he’s a trailblazer!
Shocking that after winning his second term as the UK’s first directly elected Black Mayor (& first of a major European City) the “progressive”@TheGreenParty campaigned to abolish his role 😱
🌍 Honoured to be among 25 mayors from around the world, including Vitaliy Klitschko (Kyiv), Katrin Stjernfeldt (Malmö), and Quintin Lucas (Kansas City), shortlisted for the 2023 @World_Mayor Prize
