Climate change is predicted to lower the ionosphere. Previous studies have not found a consistent signal. We show that this is because space weather stirs up the atmosphere differently, depending on location. @EGU_AnGeophys angeo.copernicus.org/article…

Hi @inky_willis !
My daughter has just discovered #scribblewitch in the school library & she loves it!
She wanted me to let you know this, & that she made this bookmark before seeing the page showing how to draw her.

Go listen to Dr Steph because
a) she's an expert in this stuff and
b) she's great at explaining it
Really enjoyed chatting to @PeaseRoland about the very impressive and unique auroral show we had last Friday. You can listen to us on Science in Action through the link below👇🌞

I don't claim credit for the tortured title of tonight's Science in Action (nor should you blame Steph Yardley) but it quite sums up my impression of the best Northern Lights I've seen in 40+yrs. Thx to @slyardley for talking thru' the science wow factors.

Easiest share of the day 👇
Twitter please can you help by sharing and tagging anyone who might help?
Liz is 16 and lives to take photographs. She has a rare and aggressive cancer which doctors have told her means she has between 6 months and 3 years to live. We hope every day for a lifetime for her but if we can’t achieve that we hope to create her a lifetime of memories. If we can make even one of her photography bucket list happen for her she will be beyond delighted.
Liz would love to:
Photograph the rehearsal of a major musical @OfficialALW @HamiltonWestEnd @sixthemusical @lesmisofficial @PhantomOpera @StarlightExp @MatildaMusical @TheLionKing
Watch the filming of Would I Lie To You @WILTY_TV @BBC1
Have photographs published in as many magazines as possible @hellomag @GraziaUK @BritishVogue @ELLEUK @harpersbazaarus @okmagworldwide @Tivoli
Take photographs of the catwalk at London Fashion Week @LondonFashionWk
Photograph circus performers practicing their act @CircusVegasUK @planetcircusuk
Help film a movie @PinewoodStudios @ElstreeStudios @EalingStudios
Photograph a music festival @glastonbury @liveatleedsfest
Take photos of the Christmas markets at Tivoli Gardens
Do a photo shoot with professional models @IMGmodels @StormModels @Wilhelmina @PremierModels
Take photos in a fashion shoot at a big fashion house @MulberryEngland @FollowWestwood @victoriabeckham @Burberry @StellaMcCartney @PaulSmithDesign
She would also jump at any other photography based opportunities.
Please help us to give her the life she deserves in the short time she has.

The solar wind is blasting past Earth at 900 km/s, but the interplanetary magnetic field strength has fallen back to near-normal levels. If another CME arrives everything could change, but at the moment tonight is looking much quieter than last night. #aurora #SpaceWeather

The @aurorawatchuk app has issued an amber alert - the first time it’s dropped below red since everything kicked off yesterday (Friday) afternoon. For the moment at least, it looks like there is a slight lull in geomagnetic activity. – at Lancaster, England

Things can change quickly so don’t be too disheartened if you don’t see anything straight away. Good luck!

The camera on your phone is more sensitive to red light than your eyes, and its ability to take exposures of a few seconds can produce great shots even if there’s less going on with the naked eye.

The forecasts for tonight look good for a possible repeat of last night’s spectacular #aurora. Get outside after 10.30pm, and look north.
Replying to @lionhaven @chrislintott
If you're in the UK @Lionhaven, this is a super website: aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk
If you're further a-field this NOAA 30 min forecast site is fab: swpc.noaa.gov/products/auror…
Fingers crossed 🤞
