Very happy that our work on three-wave mixing in an ENZ material without phase matching was accepted for publication. We coupled light into a thin film propagating mode and saw cascaded nonlinear interactions with CW lasers. Check it out! doi.org/10.1088/2515-7647/ad…
We have a preprint up on three-wave mixing in an ENZ material without phase matching! My undergraduate student Kyle Wynne led this effort and will be presenting this work tomorrow (Jan. 30) at #PhotonicsWest. Go see his talk at 3:10pm in room 210! doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2401.…

Very proud of my student Max who gave a great talk at Chapman’s student scholar symposium this afternoon. He and the other student working on this project (also Max) have done great work and I hope to share more of their results soon.

I'm going to be at Frontiers in Optics in Tacoma starting tomorrow! My undergraduate student Kyle is presenting a poster tomorrow afternoon on some cool work with optical nonlinearities in ITO. Hoping to see some familiar faces and maybe meet some new photonics folks!

I’ve been waiting for about an hour for the crowd to die down around my student’s poster so I could take this photo. Enjoying the feeling of seeing my student share our work with many interested people. #PhotonicsWest2023

Very excited (and honestly mostly just relieved) that the first publication from my research group was accepted with minor revisions! It’s been a long journey to get this paper published, and although we have a little more work to do, the end is in sight.

Chapman's GCI Postdoc Fellowship is a great opportunity and applications are open! This position mixes in teaching training along with the research training that is typically part of a #postdoc. If you are interested in working with me, please reach out! academicjobsonline.org/ajo/j…

This thread puts to words a feeling I’ve had pretty much since I started my faculty position that I haven’t been able to articulate. It’s nice to know that this feeling is not uncommon.
The non-linearity of science makes it difficult to know if you're on track, or way behind. It can feel like everyone else is getting data, talks, papers, grants, etc., while you're standing still. At success 1, it's easy to look around and feel an order-of-magnitude behind:

We are once again hiring at the Fowler School of Engineering! Chapman has been a great place to work, and in particular my colleagues in engineering are truly wonderful. Spread the word! apply.interfolio.com/44328/p…

I enjoyed sharing my research on Friday night on the Open Science livestream hosted by @meekinslab. Since there was no time limit, I got to be long-winded. If you’re interested, check out the recording here: youtu.be/VGjQ11r2bLo
