The inconvenient truth is that as a person with a tobacco use disorder, I see myself as a Smoker. tobacco became an integral part of my Self, dramatically complicating quitting. Ignoring this is a grave mistake. Addiction treatment must center on the person first,then the drug.
This editorial tries to make the case that "smoker" should be viewed in the same light as prior science use of "addict" or "alcoholic" and replaced. but it fails to suggest an alternative! academic.oup.com/ntr/article…
