What if the future of diabetes treatment depends on WHERE a medicine acts - not just which medicine we use? On this episode of @ProgressPotent1 I'm joined by Robert Geho, Co-Founder and CEO of @Diasome Pharmaceuticals For decades, insulin therapy has helped millions of people manage diabetes. But conventional injected insulin reaches the general circulation before the liver -the organ that plays a central role in regulating glucose metabolism. Diasome is developing a different approach. Its proprietary Hepatocyte-Directed Vesicle (HDV) technology is designed to direct insulin toward liver cells, with the goal of improving glucose regulation while reducing hypoglycemia. In our conversation, we explore: 🧬 Why the liver is so important to normal insulin physiology; 🔬 How HDV technology is designed to change insulin delivery; 📊 What Diasome's Phase 2b OPTI-2 results tell us; 💉 Whether liver-targeted insulin could complement today's insulin therapies; ⚖️ Why the company is also investigating HDV-based approaches to GLP-1 and serotonin signaling; And we'll tackle a bigger question: Could more precise drug delivery open new possibilities for treating metabolic disease? The science is fascinating. The clinical evidence compelling. And the next steps will determine whether this approach can make a meaningful difference for patients. #Diabetes #Biotechnology #DrugDelivery #MetabolicHealth #MedicalInnovation @russopartners

🧬 Cancer treatment is advancing. Is patient access keeping up? Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a powerful example of how modern medicine is changing. Targeted therapies and molecular testing have transformed treatment decisions - but scientific progress alone does not guarantee that patients will benefit. What happens when recommended biomarker testing is missed? When insurance restrictions interfere with treatment decisions? When affordability or disparities influence which therapies patients actually receive? On this episode of @ProgressPotent1 I’m joined by Kirsten Axelsen - @kjacny - Senior Advisor at Charles River Associates - @News_CRA - and Steve Bloom, President and Chair of the @CllSociety . We discuss a national assessment of CLL care access, the evidence behind reported gaps in testing and treatment, the role of insurers and pharmacy benefit managers, disparities in care, and potential policy solutions. We also explore a fundamental question for modern medicine: How do we ensure that advances in precision oncology translate into better care for the people who need them? Because innovation matters - but so does getting the right care to the right patient. #CLL #CancerCare #PrecisionMedicine #PatientAccess #HealthcarePolicy #Oncology #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities @BeOneMedicines @RealChemistry_ @lymphoma @ACSCAN @BloodCancerUtd

Can AI and virtual avatars predict which drugs will be toxic to humans? One of the biggest challenges in drug development is figuring out what happens inside the human body before a new medicine reaches patients. A compound may look promising in the lab, yet fail because of unexpected toxicity, metabolism, or effects on organs far removed from its intended target. On this episode of @ProgressPotent1 I'm joined by Dr. @NatalieMaPhD - Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer of @DeepOriginBio, to explore how AI-powered drug safety prediction could change that equation. Deep Origin is developing computational ADMET models and Virtual Human Avatars of Toxicology (VHAT) designed to connect biological processes and help predict how drug candidates may behave across the body. The ambition is significant: better human-relevant predictions, more informed drug-development decisions, and potentially less reliance on animal testing. But the critical scientific questions remain: How accurately do these models predict human toxicity? Can they identify hazards that individual models miss? And can they distinguish genuinely dangerous compounds from promising drugs that deserve a closer look? We'll explore the technology, the promise, and the challenge of validating AI against real biological outcomes. Watch the conversation and join us in examining what it will take to make virtual human biology a useful tool in drug development. #ArtificialIntelligence #DrugDiscovery #Biotechnology #DrugSafety #DeepOrigin #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities @orangefiery @ARPA_H

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE POWER GRID GOES DOWN? Our modern world depends on electricity - from transportation and communications to emergency response and critical infrastructure. But what happens when conventional power infrastructure is unavailable, damaged, or too expensive and time-consuming to extend? On this episode of @ProgressPotent1 I explore that question with @DesmondWheatley -Chairman, President & CEO of Beam Global - @BeamForAll Beam Global is rethinking how energy infrastructure can be deployed, with solutions spanning solar-powered EV charging, battery storage, curbside charging, and mobile power applications. We'll explore: ⚡ EV ARC: Can EV charging infrastructure operate without a conventional grid connection? ☀️ Solar Tree & BeamTrak: How can solar generation be integrated into parking and charging infrastructure? 🏙️ BeamSpot: Can we make curbside EV charging more accessible without the cost and disruption of conventional installations? 🚨 Resilience & disaster response: When a hurricane or other emergency disrupts the grid, what critical services can locally generated and stored energy realistically support? 🔋 Energy security: Could distributed energy systems complement the electric grid and help communities become more resilient? The goal isn't to suggest that decentralized energy can replace the grid. It's to understand where generating, storing, and delivering energy locally can make a meaningful difference . The question isn't whether we need the grid. It's whether the grid alone is enough. #BeamGlobal #EnergyResilience #EnergySecurity #SolarEnergy #EVCharging #CleanTechnology #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities @CoreIR_

🧠 Can AI help doctors see more in brain imaging? We can now image the human brain in extraordinary detail. But seeing an image and extracting all the information it contains are two very different things. On this episode of @ProgressPotent1 I'm joined by Dr. Abigail Livny-Ezer, Ph.D. - @livnyezer - Director of the C.BIRD Center at @sheba_medical / @SHEBA_ and Co-Founder & Chief Scientific Officer of Sightendo. We explore the science of brain imaging, what traumatic brain injury can teach us about the brain's remarkable capacity to adapt, and how functional MRI can reveal differences that ordinary cognitive testing may miss. We also step inside the neurointerventional suite to examine Sightendo's approach to AI-powered analysis of angiographic images - and how quantitative measurements and contextual visualizations might support physicians during complex procedures. 🔬 Can AI uncover useful information that is difficult to quantify by eye? 🧠 Can brain imaging help us better understand recovery after injury? 🏥 And what evidence will be needed to demonstrate that AI-assisted imaging actually improves clinical decisions and patient outcomes? Join us for a fascinating conversation at the intersection of neuroscience, medical imaging, artificial intelligence, and the future of healthcare. #Neuroscience #MedicalAI #BrainImaging #ArtificialIntelligence #HealthcareInnovation #Sightendo #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities @SapirIsHere

ADHD DOESN'T STOP WHEN THE WORKDAY ENDS. SO WHY SHOULD TREATMENT? For millions of people living with ADHD, medication can make a meaningful difference. But what happens when its effects wear off - while homework, family responsibilities, relationships, and the rest of everyday life are still demanding attention? On the latest @ProgressPotent1 episode, we're exploring a fascinating question at the intersection of neuroscience, drug delivery, and lived experience: Can we design ADHD medication around the entire active day? Joining me are two guests bringing very different but complementary perspectives: 🧠 Dr. Matthew Brams, MD - Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of @CingulateInc, a psychiatrist and clinical-trial investigator with decades of experience in ADHD treatment and drug development. 🎙️ @ConnorDeWolfe_ - Actor, content creator, and ADHD advocate who uses humor and personal experience to help millions better understand what living with ADHD can actually feel like. We explore Cingulate's experimental treatment, CTx-1301, which is designed to release dexmethylphenidate in three timed pulses from a single morning tablet. We discuss the pharmacology, clinical-trial evidence, the challenges of medication wearing off, and the everyday realities that can be overlooked when ADHD is viewed solely as a problem of concentration. We'll also tackle some bigger questions: What do people misunderstand about ADHD? What does the clinical evidence actually tell us? And how do we distinguish a promising drug-delivery innovation from a genuinely better treatment? Because the goal isn't simply to make medication last longer. It's to understand whether treatment can work better for the people who depend on it. #ADHD #Neuroscience #MentalHealth #DrugDevelopment #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities @firecrackerpr

🧬 Why do some patients respond dramatically to a drug while others with the same diagnosis see little benefit? And could important clues be hiding in clinical-trial data that conventional methods struggle to uncover? On this episode of @ProgressPotent1 I'm joined by Dr. Joseph Geraci, PhD. - Co-Founder, CTO and CSO of @NetraMark, to explore the intersection of mathematical science, AI, quantum machine learning and precision medicine. Dr. Geraci's unusual journey spans theoretical physics, quantum algorithms, mathematical oncology, neuroscience and machine learning. Today, his work focuses on using AI to discover hidden patient subgroups and help researchers design better clinical trials. We'll explore: 🔬 How patient heterogeneity can obscure a drug's true treatment effect; 🧠 How NetraAI searches for interpretable patterns in complex clinical-trial data; ⚛️ What quantum and quantum-inspired machine learning might offer - and what remains unproven; 💊 Whether identifying the right patients could help improve drug-development success; 📊 How researchers can distinguish a genuine signal from overfitting - and turn an AI discovery into a clinically useful hypothesis. The big question: Could better mathematics and AI help us understand not just whether a drug works, but which patients it works for - and why? #ArtificialIntelligence #CancerResearch #PrecisionMedicine #ClinicalTrials #QuantumMachineLearning #NetraMark #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities

What happens when AI stops simply predicting biology - and starts experimenting on biology? We’ve seen what systems like AlphaFold can do: use AI to make extraordinarily powerful predictions about protein structure. But structure is only part of the story. The much harder challenge is understanding function - what a biological system actually does, how it responds to intervention, and what happens when our predictions encounter the messy reality of living systems. That’s where the idea of the autonomous laboratory gets really interesting. I recently spoke on @ProgressPotent1 with Dr. @lucianoaglucas, VP and Enterprise Head of Autonomous and Intelligent Labs at @DanaherCorp, about a new model of scientific discovery in which AI, robotics, laboratory instruments and data are connected in a continuous design → make → test → learn loop. Instead of: AI makes a prediction → scientist sends it to the lab → experiment happens → data comes back → scientist decides what to do next …the vision is: AI designs → robots make → instruments test → AI learns → AI chooses the next experiment → repeat. And that raises a fascinating question: Is the future of AI-driven drug discovery not simply better models - but AI systems that can actually run the experiments needed to prove themselves right or wrong? We explore autonomous laboratories, antibody discovery, AI-ready scientific data, intelligent instruments, agentic AI, physical AI and what this could mean for the future of drug discovery. #AI #DrugDiscovery #AutonomousLabs #Biotechnology #Danaher #AutonomousScience #PhysicalAI

What if you could treat a genetic disease without actually fixing the gene? That question sits at the center of my @ProgressPotent1 conversation with Alex Yang, CEO of @PolaryxTx. Lysosomal storage disorders are a group of rare inherited diseases in which defects in the cell's lysosomal machinery cause material to accumulate inside cells, ultimately contributing to inflammation, cellular dysfunction and neurodegeneration. But here's the fascinating part: The genetic mutations can be very different. So rather than trying to correct each individual mutation, Polaryx is pursuing an approach designed to enhance the cell's own lysosomal and autophagy machinery - essentially asking whether we can make the cell better at clearing the material that has accumulated inside it. Its lead program, PLX-200, is being developed for four devastating pediatric diseases: CLN2, CLN3, Krabbe disease and Sandhoff disease. The company is preparing the SOTERIA Phase 2 basket trial to investigate whether one therapeutic approach can potentially modify disease across these genetically distinct disorders. We also get into one of the most interesting questions in modern rare-disease medicine: When a disease starts with a genetic mutation, do we always have to fix the gene - or can we sometimes intervene downstream and repair the cellular machinery that the mutation disrupts? And what can a basket trial actually tell us when we're dealing with diseases that affect very small numbers of children? An incredibly interesting conversation at the intersection of cell biology, rare disease, drug development and the future of genetic medicine. #RareDisease #Biotech #Lysosomes #GeneTherapy #DrugDevelopment #Neuroscience #Polaryx #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities @CoreIR_

Cancer care shouldn't end with treating the cancer. For many patients, the effects of cancer treatment can persist long after surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation have ended. Pain, fatigue, weakness, lymphedema, neuropathy, and reduced mobility can profoundly affect a person's ability to return to everyday life. In this episode of @ProgressPotent1 I'm joined by Dr. @EricWisotzkyMD, Director of Cancer Rehabilitation at @MedStarNRH and Ashley Smith, who shares her personal experience navigating breast cancer and rehabilitation. We explore how cancer rehabilitation can help patients prepare for treatment, manage side effects while undergoing care, and regain strength, mobility, function, and independence over the long term. From prehabilitation and physical therapy to chronic pain management, lymphedema, radiation fibrosis, and the future of personalized cancer recovery, we'll discuss why rehabilitation deserves a much larger role in the cancer care journey. Because surviving cancer is only part of the story. Helping people live well afterward matters, too. #CancerRehabilitation #CancerCare #CancerSurvivorship #BreastCancer #CancerRecovery #Healthcare #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities @ScottCircle
