Medicine's job is to resolve the mental distress, not to try to bash reality into conformity with the delusional belief.

Dear physician,
You work to the point of exhaustion but told it’s not enough.
You have been stripped of your autonomy but held accountable when things go wrong.
Your commitment to patient care is questioned when you advocate for yourself.
You have been invalidated so many times that you no longer express your concerns.
These are examples of gaslighting.
A common occurrence in medicine because the system is greedy and always demanding more from you.

It seems AHPRA and its law firms (with or without any input from the Medical Board) now use cancellation as the replacement where cautions were once sufficient.

Ahpra goes after doctors for what they post on social media or events in their personal lives. Nasty folks there.

Suicidal ideation, for many, isn't about death.
It's about relief.
From shame.
From feeling overwhelmed constantly. From feeling like a fucking burden.
The goal isn't always "not wanting to be alive"
It's just not wanting to live like this.

Adding Bipolar 2 to DSM4 seemed like great idea:
1)Distinct presentation/course
2)Family loading
3)To prevent antidepressant induced manias/rapid cycling
But bad unintended consequences:
1)Massive overdiagnosis
2)Harmful overuse of antipsychotics
3)Needless stigma
Easy to see benefits of new diagnoses/hard to predict their risks. Safety first.

Didn’t Angst’s studies provided enough support for the “existence” of BD-II ?

You can spend 20 years becoming an expert and still say:
“I don’t know.”
You can spend 20 minutes on Google and become absolutely certain.
That should tell us something.
Dr Sridharan Suresh took his own life after being notified by the GMC that he was under investigation.
We are supporting an appeal all the way to the Supreme Court in a pivotal case regarding duty of care. Doctors deserve a regulator that safeguards their wellbeing while protecting patient safety.

Dear physician,
You can never satisfy the system.
No matter how hard you try.
The more you give, the more the system will expect from you.
You can completely sacrifice yourself and it still won’t be enough for a broken, inefficient system that has lost its moral compass.

AI can reduce documentation burden in medicine. But a clinical encounter is not just a transcript.
Patients communicate through expressions & nuance. The question isn’t just whether AI can write a note, but whether it preserves the human story beneath it. news-medical.net/news/202609…
