High-potency cannabis is not a niche issue anymore. It is a psychiatric one
In my new @PsychTimes piece, I argue that modern cannabis has evolved far beyond the low-potency marijuana of the old days

Ultimately, psychiatry is two people in a room trying to better understand the world, and themselves. That requires the honest, caring exchange of ideas.
If you come in with relationship problems, my job isn’t to push you to stay or leave. It’s to help you understand yourself more clearly through it.
Discussion and debate are at the core of what we do, they’re the very process by which we help people understand their lives. Yet modern medicine often does them poorly. So a few colleagues and I created a psychiatry debate competition.
The goal isn’t to declare winners. It’s to model the kind of rigorous, respectful dialogue our field should be built on. The first finals will be held at the APA.
I also wrote an article with some of this year’s participants on the motion: “Should Accrediting Bodies Require AI for Suicide Risk Stratification in Emergency Settings?”
@PsychTimes featured it on their homepage. I’d be grateful if you read it, or better yet, join us at the APA to watch psychiatry residents debate important topics with intelligence and respect.

In the March cover story for Psychiatric Times (@PsychTimes ), I provide an overview of the proposed changes to the future DSM, accompanied by some personal commentary and suggestions of my own.
My suggestions revolve around the following points:
· Diagnostic Formulation Needs to Be Linked to Treatment
· The Missing Domain: Psychological Factors and Personality Traits
· DSM’s Notion of Dimensionality Is Underdeveloped
· Major Categories Should Not Become the New “Unspecified”
· The Definition of Disorder (and the Proposed Name Change)
· Indicate the Degree of Empirical Validation for Specific Diagnoses
· Explain Why Diagnostic Thresholds Are What They Are
· Include HiTOP in the DSM Appendix
