Open networks win
#bitaxe dev @johnny9dev pointed this out to me yesterday, and I think it sums up the motivation nicely;
"#bitcoin mining machines are arguably the most important piece of hardware in the bitcoin ecosystem, and yet their design is a secret"
Someone setup a fake @osmu_global discord server and is directing victims through a malware "verification" link. @discord_support notified, but refuses to act. Be careful out there folks.

With two BM1373 chips pushing around 4.4 terahashes per second at default settings, the Naja Duo is one of the most capable open-source miners you can put on your desk.
IMO there's no amount of transparent cases or inter-pcb encryption that can prevent a supply chain attack. Even the displays have silicon that are made by the millions in China that could be modified to exfiltrate cleartext.
The real solution is to make these yourself with full accountability instead of outsourcing to places where western law doesn't apply.
Anyone know of any other Chinese supply chain Bitcoin hardware that might be vulnerable to this type of thing? 🤔
oh my god this is worse than we thought
here's @Ledger $86M exploits explained
> cryptobilis was a reputable and authorized Ledger/Trezor/OneKey dealer for over 4 years
> they decided to sell the company to a Chinese guy (most likely patsy for DPRK) from northern China in MARCH 2026
> the "Chinese guy" modded the devices within the supply chain itself (physical), namely Nano X devices, to contain an implant module
> ledger validity/genuineness check CANNOT detect this because hw wasn't actually tampered with, just spied on
> quoting @MagicalTux:
" implant just monitors what's shown on the screen, will take note of the seed as it's shown to you, then transmits it to 3rd party"
> former owner chimes in on X (pic below) to say that "they were under a NDA" to not mention anything to anyone for 6 months
> they obviously didn't alert any of their partners that they were authorized to sell devices of... because NDA, duh!! its in the name!
> conveniently, funds start getting siphoned a few weeks before this magical NDA due date, and being laundered across all blockchains

We went from "spam will ruin everyone's ability to run a node" to "get a real computer" super fast.

If I could tag Bitfortun I would. Yes your device is TRASH. Bad solder work, bad firmware, anemic fans, no fuses or protections in place, firmware can't read temps, one setting turns it to a potential fire hazard. Another companies firmware is a bandaid.

Bitcoin started as an open-source project.
But miners split from nodes, advanced to ASICs and closed the door. Today it is inherently permissioned.
A commoditized mining stack is necessary to return Bitcoin's decentralization and permissionlessness.

Over the past week, a competing business (Helium Deploy/BSB/Harlo Labs) has been “reviewing” mining hardware purchased from us to question our honesty and integrity.
The same week, their Discord circulated a photo of a Bitfortun BS-2 with what community members identified as the Open Source Hardware mark. That miner is being pre-sold. We have not found public schematics, KiCad sources, layout files, or a BOM for it. As far as the public record shows, it is a proprietary design.
An open-source mark means the design files are public. A pre-sale asks customers to pay before they can inspect a unit. Those two facts do not sit well next to a week of lectures about honesty.

Every Bitaxe begins as a bare PCB.
Each electronic component, including ASICs, fan headers, ICs, capacitors, and inductors, is placed by domestic SMT lines, then quality-controlled and inspected by a U.S. workforce. Final assembly of the heatsink, fan, and display is completed on site, after which every unit is flashed with firmware and performance tested prior to shipment.
Every order is then picked, packed, and shipped by our U.S. team.
This commitment sustains American jobs, supports the families of our employees, and keeps investment within the U.S. economy.
100% Assembled in the USA. We stand behind every word.

What retard at Helium "drop ship" Deploy wrote this?
The Bitaxe Naja Duo clearly displays 8.8 J/TH on the screen at only 42 watts.
Also, not shipping overclocked means nothing. Users can easily get 8 TH/s + simply by changing the frequency and voltage settings. Stop purposely lying to people that do not know better.

Enforcing an open source license against someone who flaunted violating it is a "license pirate"... How do you come up with this nonsense?
