What a precious gifts each of these moments are in every way for Maya, and her family. I'm over the moon to hear that she's coming home finally. Wishing many, many, more moments, of gratitude and joy to all of them in the months, and years, ahead.
262 days.
It’s been 262 days since you were airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital.
262 days since we were told, “We did everything we could, but we don’t think she’s going to make it through the night.”
Since then, I’ve watched you fight for every single one of those days.
251 days ago, you opened your eye, moved it, and shifted your leg only to be rushed back for emergency surgery that morning when hydrocephalus set in.
238 days ago, you were extubated and breathed on your own for the first time.
230 days ago, you felt the sun on your face again.
224 days ago, the cranioplasty we had planned turned into yet another emergency when an infection was discovered.
214 days ago, your EVD was finally removed.
213 days ago, you sat on the edge of the bed with a little help, and I wrapped my arms around you for the first time since the morning I left for work before any of this began.
191 days ago, the NG tube came out, and I saw your beautiful face completely clear of tubes and tape.
179 days ago, your prosthetic skull was placed. Your fifth surgery, and the one that finally stuck. After that, things slowly began to feel possible again.
145 days ago, you smiled for the first time (intentionally) while we played thumb war.
140 days ago, I wheeled you off hospital grounds for the very first time.
61 days ago, I heard your voice again.
40 days ago, we celebrated your 13th birthday at the Foo Fighters.
And today, today you’re being released.
There was never a day I stopped believing we would get here. The road ahead is still long, but this is a milestone no one thought we would reach. Maya, you are the bravest person I know. You are an inspiration to so many people. Giving up was never an option for me, and it clearly never was for you either. You refused to accept the words we heard 262 days ago when you came out of the OR. Look at you, my girl. You blew every expectation out of the water.
Thank you to the incredible nurses, doctors, and therapists who walked every step of this with us. Thank you to everyone who supported Maya and our family we could not have done this without each and every one of you.
Now it’s time to leave these hospital walls behind and keep moving forward, Maya Bear.
I love you forever and always.
—Dad ❤️

I am deeply saddened to learn of Walter Koenig’s passing.
Although we did not know each other well away from the set, we shared the later seasons of the original Star Trek series and the six films that followed.
What I observed, and what so many fans have expressed over the years, was a man who genuinely loved the Star Trek community.
At conventions, Walter was rarely content to remain behind a signing table. He preferred to be among the people who had kept Star Trek alive for so many decades.
That kind of genuine connection is rare, and it will be remembered by everyone who came into contact with him.
My condolences to his family, his friends, and the countless fans whose lives he touched.

“I want to be a doctor that can relate to somebody... relate to a sickle cell patient and actually know what they’re going through,” Mullin said.
Phillip Mullin has become the first child in Louisiana to be functionally cured of sickle cell disease ksla.com/2026/10/24/alexandr…
This amazing news made me cry happy years. As someone living with a serious incurable chronic illness I know how the horrible pain, frequent doctors visits, and awful hospital stays, can drain you completely dry. So many young people suffer through the horrors of sickle cell crisis, and I'm simply over the moon for Philip Mullin and his family. My blessings for the future go with them all. What hope this gives to everyone living with Sickle Cell. *invisible hugs*

I'm a Japanese guy, and I've been posting about America in English every single day.
My Japanese followers are leaving. Fair enough. They signed up for a guy who wrote in Japanese.
My mother asked me, "Why America?"
I showed her a photo of a 72-ounce steak from Texas.
She stopped asking.
Here's what you'll find here:
→ One Japanese word at a time that you can actually use. (Eshaku. Itterasshai. Many more coming.)
→ True stories of the times America and Japan had each other's backs.
→ American heroes Japan has never forgotten.
→ Questions I've always wanted to ask Americans. (Shoes in the house: verdict still pending.)
And since we just met, a first word for you:
"Yoroshiku onegaishimasu."
There's no English for it. You say it at the start of something new. Roughly: "I'm in your hands. Please be good to me. I'll do my best for you, too."
So: yoroshiku onegaishimasu, America. 🙇
Drop your state below so I know who I'm writing for. 👇

Category 5 Super Typhoon Champi now has extremely violent sustained winds of 185 MPH (298 kph) and an insane core pressure of 895 MBAR, tying her with Super Typhoon Sinlaku as the world’s STRONGEST storm of 2026 by wind speed.
You are looking at a meteorological Megalodon.

We mourn the passing of our friend, actor Michael Forest, who left us this week. Born Gerald Michael Charlebois, the man who played Apollo on Star Trek was 97. Michael indulged me by posing for this photo in 2022.

Our hearts are with the family of Megan Lambert, who has been identified as the teacher shot and killed yesterday at Silver Rail Elementary School.
Megan was only 25-years-old.
In a statement, Megan’s family shared the following: “She loved Silver Rail. This was her dream job. Megan was compassionate and had a huge heart. She always fought for the underdog and those with special needs… We would like the other families to know they are in our thoughts and prayers. Megan loved those children, and so we will show you love for her."
Megan also worked as a volleyball coach at Central Oregon Volleyball Club, where in her first year coaching, she turned down payment so that the money could go to the families of the players who could not afford to play. She was a selfless, beloved teacher, sister, and daughter who will be deeply missed.
Megan deserved better, and we will always fight in her honor.

A "Scaramucci" is still the standard unit of measurement.
All other press secretaries are measured against a Scaramucci, even those fired more quickly. There isn't any need to muck up the units with more metric v. imperial faultlines.
