My autistic brain loves to plan out entire conversations before socialising. It can be tiring, but it comforts me. I like to prepare for every eventuality, so I map out every conversational path in mind, like I’m creating and repeatedly playing a “choose your own adventure” game.

Them: "You're a marine biologist?" Me: "Correct"! Them: "I always wanted to be a marine biologist! But then I learned they don't make any money." Me: ".....also correct" 😑 Marine biologists everywhere, how often is this how people greet you? 😂 I'd say a solid 30% at least – at Pacifica, CA

Some day I will stop being surprised at ospreys' ability to lift off after being submerged, but today is not that day.
What a sight. After getting dragged under three times, this Osprey emerges with a massive pompano. Go bird go!

I am in Target. I am trying to buy a photo album. I asked where they might be. Worker did not know what a photo album was. I said it was a place to keep pictures. He sent me to the tech aisle. He assumed I wanted memory to store more pictures on my phone. I am 1 billion years old

The translation doesn't do it justice. 如果有来生 (If there is a next life) 我还是会选择和你报税,开洗衣店 (I'd still choose to do taxes & run a laundry with you) It's not a regretful supposition of what could've been, but a wistful invitation to spend the next life together
to me, this is the single most romantic scene ever created

So many interesting things here: the reminder that plants and animals diverged at the very base of Eukarya. Seeing Eukarya surrounded by Archaeal relatives. There are so many cells we've sequenced but never seen (I'm assuming that's what the DNA strands mean).

Though the administration and many faculty may not realize it yet, UC’s bargaining tactics are causing serious damage to our academic culture. The long-term damage from alienating the UC’s academic workforce will be far more costly than any concession in a contract negotiation.

What a wonderful google doodle celebrating Irene Bernasconi, a biologist and starfish specialist (seastars in you prefer) from Argentina. In 1968 she was the first woman to lead a scientific expedition to Antarctica. She was 72 at the time.g.co/doodle/c5tnypg
