Last week I took an Uber to the airport. The driver was a friendly guy, and we chatted a bit on the way. Just as I was getting out, he said, “If you have any acquaintances in Pakistan, try to free Imran Khan.” It caught me off guard for a second, but he said it in a calm, matter-of-fact way, as if it was simply something on his mind. The prolonged standoff between the government, the establishment, and Imran Khan serves no one’s interests. Both sides would do well to seek an amicable resolution of their differences, with Imran Khan reconciling with the state in the broader interest of the country. A genuine win-win outcome would allow Pakistan to move past this deadlock and confront its many challenges with greater unity and focus. Continued confrontation only deepens divisions and delays the prosperity the nation so urgently needs.

Countless 🤣 Siraj Chacha once took Qasim Hall’s Mess thaika. When we used to come from classes lobya used to be our favourite dish. Once we were having lunch in Qasim Hall’s lawn and kept on asking for supply after supply (the extra used to be called supply). Poor Siraj Chacha brought the entire Daichkay and put it in front of us, saying doctor saib thaso ye okhwrai nor hostel ba ye 🤣

Back in medical college we used to attend the pharma dinners as uninvited guests 🤣 at the old Pearl Continental Hotel (now Serena). One evening the chief guest was the great Jahangir Khan. My cousin and I did what any hungry students would do — filled our plates with literally everything we could see. Then we decided we wanted a quick chat with him. As we walked closer, we suddenly became painfully aware of how ridiculous our overloaded plates looked. Instant shame. Without saying a word we both quietly reversed, slipped off to the side, and stood there eating just enough to bring the plates down to some level of decency. Once they looked socially acceptable, we casually walked back and joined the conversation like nothing had happened. Those were the days. If only someone had told us that shopper was a great tactic too 😂
