#NTE #NTELimerick In the literature of Soviet suffering, there may be no pages more powerful than the cycle of poems by Anna Akhmatova entitled “Requiem.” With poems far tighter and more powerful than any history, Anna Akhmatova brings readers in with colour, emotion, and confession. Marina Rosca, whose family lived through the time of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Moldova, will give a public reading of Requiem at Quay Books on Thursday 24th October at 7.30 pm. This event is part of the Limerick City and County Council Night Time Economy programme.

The OVERCOAT, a short story by Nikolay Gogol, is perhaps the best-known and most influential short fiction in all of Ukrainian/East European literature. Tickets (which are free) for the event may be booked here: eventbrite.ie/e/the-overcoat…
“We all came out from Gogol’s ‘Overcoat,’” it has been said. Although published in 1842, the short story still raises questions that challenge us even today.
The story will be read in English and Ukrainian by Yuliia Samoilenko, an illustrator and artist, and Eugene Bondarenkoa, a digital artist.
