Dear seniors, your juniors also deserve weekends. Church, family and rest are not luxuries. Stop making us choose between our sanity and meeting Monday deadlines.

The next Chief Justice must deal with the very basic problems that have turned justice administration into a joke.
Judges still writing proceedings by hand. Typist who can barely keep up. Bailiffs who cannot serve processes or even return affidavits of non-service in good time. Filed processes not placed on dockets.
The Judicial Service whose employees deliver judgments has no single data base of decided cases. I recently accessed a website of state agency in an African Country to read a decision that had just be delivered for free. It had the full judgment and a media summary. We have handed over public documents under whatever arrangements to private companies who now require payment to grant access.
The Bar must also stop wasting its time on advising new lawyers constantly about everything while doing virtually nothing to make their entry into a new career comfortable.
We hold on tightly to age-old traditions that don't solve a single one of these problems. I'm not sure who we're doing it for anymore. Fix the basics first.

Young lawyers don’t just need Seniors who will give them work. They need mentors who will teach them the work. There’s a difference.

Can we talk about how Ileke is gradually disappearing from Yoruba bridal looks?
I remember when Yoruba brides would adorn themselves with three or more layers of Ileke, even when they had gold or silver jewellery to complement their look. The beads were never an afterthought; they were an important part of the entire bridal appearance.
These days, we're gradually moving from those beautiful layers of Ileke to just one thin strand, or sometimes none at all. Interestingly, I still see Yoruba grooms embracing Ileke, but the brides seem to be leaving it behind.
A princess recently got married, and looking through all her bridal looks, I couldn't find one where she wore Ileke.
I know fashion evolves, and everyone has the freedom to interpret tradition differently, but I worry that if we continue this way, we might get to a point where other tribes start questioning whether Ileke was originally part of Yoruba women's traditional adornment.
Can we please not allow some of these beautiful parts of our culture to disappear in the name of modern styling? You can wear your gold, diamonds and silver, but let the Ileke have its place too. ❤️
