Not to be overly emotional on main, but there was a period of several years where I was genuinely convinced my book would never, ever be finished. I literally sobbed whilst drafting (and then deleting) 'giving up' emails to my publisher. And now it's being published THIS WEEK 😭

It is important to point out that even if he were guilty of minor plagiarism, that is not a death penalty offence!! What was done to him was objectively wrong. The media campaign against Jason (including a certain "left" outlet) was never about academia, it was racism.

More venues & events are only accepting Nimbus access card as proof of disability. We're calling on the government to stop this by forcing these events to accept government letters or official medical proof which you can get for free. Please sign it! petition.parliament.uk/petit…

no disabled person wants this. no group of disabled people has advocated for this. the "person-first" (and i have my problems with even calling it that, more on that soon) language originally comes from objections to the phrase "autistic people" by allistic people looking...
Never again in your life should you call them, 'disabled'. The right word is 'people with disabilities (PWDs)'. Learn

Here's a thread of evidence that "back to work" schemes for the welfare claimants targeted (LCWRA/ESA) don't work They're a waste of money & resource & inflict disappointment &/or distress on the majority targeted When you're too ill to work, you're too ill to work. Who knew 🙃
Replying to @LurgeeLife
Here's Iain Porter of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation telling the Work & Pensions Committee on 14 July 2025 that Employment Support for chronically ill & disabled people "at most will see 1, 2, or 3% of those millions of disabled people impacted by cuts getting into work"

Community note: Sky News has been repeatedly told that claimants do not choose what the DWP records as their primary affecting condition, and most claimants have multiple conditions, and PIP is not based on what conditions or diagnoses a claimant has.

From what I'm reading, the government expected the review into mental health diagnoses to say that conditions like ADHD and autism were being overdiagnosed, particularly in young people and then use that as justification for making disability benefits cuts, particularly impacting younger people with mental health conditions. However, the problem is the review didn't say that, and it also said that work in and of itself should not be seen as a viable solution for everyone. I mean I could have told them all this without the need for the review, but the central point is, they are stuffed because they haven't got the evidential justification that intensive employment support instead of benefits will be effective and not lead to harm to the individual concerned. That being said, as I have mentioned many times before in the last few years, I'm not against the principle of disabled people and people with mental health conditions working, as long as the work they are doing is good for them and they are fully capable of doing it without any adverse disability -related impacts. My issue is, and always has been that simply assuming that a condition such as ADHD always has mild implications in terms of work capability is both wrong and immensely dangerous. Also, age should not be used as a determining factor in deciding the severity of the impact of a disability or health condition.

As an autistic person, living in a houseshare during university caused me such anxiety that I lost a dangerous amount of weight (I developed a fear of going in the kitchen), and led to such a regression that I wasn't able to try living unsupported again until I was 31.
It's easy for people to say do house share, but in your 30s, 40s, 50, 60s, older, really? With illness & disability that's even more of a disaster

It's not only a total fracturing of the social contract to push housesharing as a totally reasonable option for adults (beyond young adulthood), but housesharing can literally be nightmarish and completely untenable for many disabled people. The thought of it terrifies me.

Just a reminder that there's still tickets available for our Queerly Autistic evening at the Chicken and Frog Bookshop in Brentwood next Saturday. As well as grabbing a book and getting it signed, come along to chat, rant, and celebrate all things under the double rainbow.
