10 months ago I quit my job.
I didn’t get fired. I was the best they had.
I just got tired of putting in more than I received, and I knew I could do better.
So I left.
It was my first time building a SaaS in 7 years.
I built an AI video editor that keeps people watching longer.
It reached 2k MAU.
the ai discourse cycle is getting tired.
same 5 topics on loop.
llm benchmarks.
agentic workflows.
which model is better.
i built a video editor for 2000 creators.
nobody asks about the editing.
everyone asks about the backend.
we are talking past each other.

a lot of applied AI companies were playing katamari - get big enough that you know which capabilities are actually worth improving, can afford to train (and win) win your domain, and have immediate demand against which to amortize that investment
the "fully agentic" part is the lie.
agents can cut the fat but they don't know what keeps people watching until the last second.
retention is the only metric that matters for ads and that's still a human skill most tools ignore
everyone is arguing about the new model benchmark.
i'm arguing about my 5,955 bounces.
the model doesn't matter if your hook is boring.
i analyzed 135 uploads last month.
weak takes get cut.
viewers watch longer.
that's the only metric that pays rent.
wait until you see the retention graphs after this
generating the pixels is the easy part now
the hard part is making sure people actually watch past the hook
i watched 149 people upload video last month.
128 finished the cut.
21 dropped off.
the gap is where the money is.
we added a feature that tracks exactly where they stall.
now we know which step kills momentum.
it wasn't the ai.
it was the loading bar.
fixing that next.
the app store review process is the only moat that matters and it is 2 weeks of waiting for a "fix typo" rejection
web apps just ship. no store, no gatekeepers, no waiting for a human to approve your existence
I wouldn’t recommend product hunt to launch on anymore.
I get you want the backlink, but other than that there’s really no value
Platforms like onlyfoundrs never let your product die after 24 hrs.
It’s literally made to keep your product form not getting users
this is kinda happening already, honestly.
lately I've been using agents for marketing, distribution and even product growth.
I just hand it a api for analytics, and other stuf flike events and sesison replays
my agent watches it for me, builds me a summary of what needs fixing and I give it to my other agent to work on and deploy for me.
Software ate the world, now it's learning to run it. View article
Solid strategy!
but yapmaxxer already does this but cheaper
grok bot got me 1.5M impressions in 7 days.
i didn't hire anyone. i set up a grok bot on @bot and gave it a title: chief marketing officer. (CMO for short)
it doesn't post for me. i still press every button, but it does basically everything else.
that week it helped me land two viral posts back to back.
then it noticed my posts about my grok bots were pulling in more verified followers than anything else. so we leaned in.
wednesday i had ~1,954 verified followers.
saturday i passed 2,000 and unlocked subscriptions.
here's what it actually does every week:
- drafts my posts in my voice (rough, lowercase, like this)
- studies other creators in my space to see what's working
- keeps a content calendar of notable dates each month
- logs every post in notion and scores it against my median
- tells me when a post is still hot so i don't step on it
- sends me a weekly report on what worked and what flopped
it's not magic. some drafts are meh and i tell it so.
i just press the button.
my side project reached 800 mau today!
it’s an AI marketplace that matches your product with your ideal user.
this simplifies distribution for startups , founders and builders
onlyfoundrs hit 1765 views last month.
only 87 signups.
126 founders listed but most are ghosts.
the realtime intent engine ranks by dwell time not who posted first.
that's the fix.
stop guessing what buyers want.
watch what they linger on.
it's ugly but it works.
my ai video editor hit 5907 views last month.
only 52 people signed up.
5,955 people bounced.
that's the real cost of building in public.
you don't fail when the model is bad.
you fail when the landing page is boring.
i hate how honest that is.
the real moat in small business ai isn't the model its the boring integration with their existing pos and inventory
most indie builders skip the dirty work so the product stays a demo
if you are building for local shops i would list it on a free marketplace that matches buyers…
