There was once a shepherd who found a wolf caught in a snare at the edge of his pasture. The wolf begged to be freed. “I was hungry,” it said. “That is all. Spare me, and I will remember your mercy!” The shepherd cut the rope. The next night, three lambs were gone. Again the shepherd found the wolf. Again it pleaded. Again the shepherd convinced himself that mercy was proof of his goodness. By winter, half the flock was dead. An old farmer finally asked him, “Why do you keep freeing it?” The shepherd answered, “Because I refuse to become cruel.” The farmer looked at the empty field and said, “Then understand what you have done. You were not merciful to the wolf. You were cruel to everything that trusted you to keep them safe.” That’s the lesson. Mercy without judgment isn’t virtue. When someone openly intends to destroy what has been entrusted to you, endless forgiveness doesn’t make you righteous. It makes everyone behind you pay for your vanity.

Late-stage democracy is more descriptive than “end-stage capitalism.” What you’re seeing is a predictable failure mode of a system in which people can vote themselves more money. That’s not a failure of capitalism, that’s unrestrained democracy robbing capitalism.
I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time. We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s. We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN. For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee. In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it. Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further. nytimes.com/2026/10/25/nyreg

I’ve asked this before but is there any historical event that is like the Opposite of 9/11. Like something so good that happened that it changed the world forever

Also, if “only” 2% of the ~12 million illegals who came in under Biden are rapists and murders, that’s 240,000 rapists and murderers. These journalists act like we should just live with that, like it’s okay because deportation is mean.
A conversation with @60Minutes on rapists and murderers, which they declined to include.

I was skeptical of the whole boomer slur, but damn these boomers really are living in the 1960s and their worldview won't let them accept that things have changed. A lot.

Amazed that there was any film left after editing to (1) push the leftist propaganda and (2) make this reporterette appear marginally intelligent.

Bingo.
This explains why what people call “suicidal empathy” happens. They don’t want to deal with THIS. But like one drop of rain ignored
soon the flood is upon you.

Silly me thinking these schools would follow the law--the 14A--and the *Students for Fair Admissions* cases from SCOTUS
Black kids get an 181x boost at NYU, a 133x boost at Cornell, and a 103x boost at Harvard compared to Whites and Asians. Absolutely insane numbers.

The major question in Brazil
At exactly 5pm, a code is supposed to be entered that closes and locks the voting machines. Once a machine is locked, it can’t accept any more votes. It’s irreversible. The Supreme Court extension was relayed a few minutes after polls were supposed to be closed and machines locked. So
which machines were kept open? In what districts were those machines? And why weren’t they locked at 5pm?

Congratulations to my friend @LulaOficial on his electoral victory. Democracy and multilateralism have won in Brazil. Europe’s partnership with Brazil is thriving. We will remain by your side for the years to come. Together we will keep working closely for free and open trade. A rules-based global order. And strong ambitions for our climate.

Judge Henry Wingate just received the most vicious benchslap I've ever seen in an appellate opinion: "The district court—or perhaps, being charitable, its AI agent—ignored and manipulated governing law, apparently to satisfy a policy agenda." He was removed from the case.
