The state Auditor's job is to catch wrongdoing in state and local government. Confirming that their own office is under federal grand jury investigation is a HUGE deal.
The state Auditor has declined a request for records that represent federal subpoenas issued to that office or its personnel, saying the state office cannot release materials before a federal grand jury. buff.ly/PoKIN2Q

Many of the commenters here don't appear to know what prime rib is. It used to be a huge deal, a lot of small restaurants used to have a "prime rib day" often Thursday I think.
I never imagined we’d become regulars at Outback Steakhouse But their prime rib is legitimately good Got a 16 oz medium rare cut with tallow fries & a sweet potato for $34 while watching the World Series & UT games Not a sponsored post (but it should be!)

Pisses me off that Chicago having both The Bears and The Bulls is just a coincidence and not a deliberate finance joke

“Education dollars should follow each child, with sensible adjustments for kids who cost more to educate. And, of course, it should come at a price the state can sustain.” @james_d_paul is exactly right, here!
West Virginia's school funding formula needs reform. But @WVEducation's proposed overhaul is a step backward: more complexity, less local flexibility, and no fiscal estimate. Let's go back to the drawing board and build a formula that puts students first wvgazettemail.com/opinion/op…

Happy Opener, South Dakota! Foster and I wish you good luck in the field! Pheasant hunting is part of who we are, and it’s a tradition worth passing on to our kids and grandkids. As Governor, I partnered with landowners to start the Second Century Initiative, helping turn marginal land into wildlife habitat so the next generation can enjoy the same hunting traditions we grew up with.

It's fascinating to me that people in the replies think residents of the poorest county in the country can just uproot and relocate elsewhere. And even if they could, why should they have to? Would you uproot your life and move from your home because outsiders think you should?
Why is life expectancy in McDowell County, WV, just 65 years — 14 years below the national average? The answer: poverty and economic stress. In the richest country on earth, no community — rural or urban — should have to live under these conditions. We can and must do better.

"I don't think the nostalgic mall of yesteryear is coming back." Well, no, because you at the Hull Group decided to run the Town Center into the ground despite plenty of malls (Huntington Mall, Grand Central Mall in Parkersburg/Vienna) thriving.

I think this is especially problematic in math. A lot of elementary teachers are uncomfortable with math and can be unaware of how early math connects to later math, which topics are more critical and need more time, etc. The resources need to be very clear and well sequenced. I was shocked when someone first told me that elementary teachers in some jurisdictions are encouraged not to use texts. That's a recipe for disaster. On the other hand, given the poor quality of some of the math texts/programs in the US and Canada right now, it's hard to say what's worse.
What are the most effective methods of improving student achievement? An NYT investigation. For me, the data point in the bottom left quadrant is absolutely critical to understanding why student achievement goes wrong so often: teachers making up their own curriculum. nytimes.com/2026/09/28/upsho…
