As someone who has worked in marketing and social media for most of my post-college career, I think Pat McAfee has every right to feel unwanted by the University of Utah. College GameDay is a massive advertising opportunity for the campuses it visits. Taking a shot at one of the biggest faces of that brand is a terrible decision from a marketing and social media standpoint. You can call McAfee soft or say he's overreacting all you want, but publishing a video of students mocking him on the eve of his visit, and presenting it as a celebration of GameDay coming to campus, is an idiotic decision by whoever is running those social media accounts. Especially when you consider how warmly he was welcomed by your biggest rival just one week earlier. Whether you like McAfee or not, it's not difficult to understand why he felt uncomfortable, disrespected, and unwelcome.
