Some of the craziest AI generated videos & imagery for defence equipment are to be found on LinkedIn. Is this because algos are just anti meaningful imagery that explains military stuff ? Or is it because folks have given up on their own curiosity & are happy to trust anything AI ? I’m talking weapons firing an entire cartridge through the barrel, ejection from way beyond the chamber etc. Thankfully, this platform is ruthless & forces one to get the fundamentals right.

Once again, the standard foreign correspondent trope. Fly in, interview the taxi driver or socialite friend about what the nation thinks. The driver & friend, both agree with everything the correspondent already believed.

A journey are worth revisiting. As #Swavlamban2026 brings renewed focus to India’s defence innovation journey, this conversation offers a glimpse into the ideas and efforts that helped shape the early foundations of #Swavlamban and #SPRINT. A podcast between two Mavericks
So @RIMBBtest just reposted a podcast I had done a long time back with @VGK_India for @cdf_23…thus making it appear again on my timeline. Time for some more nostalgia. Since #Swavlamban is ongoing, it may be the right time to revisit how the first edition & #SPRINT came about. ‘Behind the scenes’ stories! Do watch. @rav26051 @drajaykumar_ias @Kbsingh03 @KRANTII01 @SAK02209619 @centerofright

Post #2 out now. Next one this afternoon. xitter.cf/arun_golaya/status/211…
Post 2 on #Swavlamban2026. Some amazing aviation innovation being undertaken by @XinfinitiA under @India_iDEX for @indiannavy. HEFS (Helicopter Emergency Floatation System), the first fully designed & made-in-India CEMILAC-compliant safety-critical float for Naval Chetak (also later aimed at ALH) is ready for wide implementation after successfully completing development & trials in record time. This would probably be the fastest case in aviation. I personally have never come across CEMILAC clearance so fast. The stall allotted was number 1 & the place assigned for the display right under the banner which read ‘Success Stories’! That itself gives you an idea about the current status of induction. Another interesting ongoing case by the same startup is the NCAS (Naval Chetak Autonomous System) via M2UC manned-to-uncrewed conversion. Smart way to extend life of legacy platforms with autonomy, ISR/ASW capability and lower risk. Would also be useful for @adgpi, @IAF_MCC & @IndiaCoastGuard. With unmanned systems many limitations of night flying, high altitude & even payloads can be overcome. #NIIO #TDAC #AtmanirbharBharat (BTW, someone had commented, rather sarcastically, on my article on the naval helicopter history saying I should also check why the unmanned Chetak is not moving. I did. It is) @BharatShaktiBSI @nitingokhale @ragebaitop

Felt a tinge of nostalgia & lots of pride visiting @indiannavy #Swavlamban2026 today. Great to be back among the innovators & the Navy ecosystem #NIIO #TDAC that has grown so much since the 1st edition when the 75 #SPRINT challenges were launched by the Hon’ble PM @narendramodi. The products are now developed, inducted & some even proved their mettle in #OpSindoor! I Will be sharing posts on the firms I interacted with over the next few days. At the entrance itself I saw Matangi (the Autonomous Weaponised Boat Swarm / Autonomous Surface Vessel by @SagarDefence). This is by now a familiar success story of indigenous unmanned maritime capability that needs little introduction. I loved the caption on the boat “this is what ordinary boys from indian villages can dream” !!! Yes, indeed. This and much more👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻@Nikunj_Parashar @Mdlski @dang_lakshay. Right next to it, at the entrance itself, was an interesting setup from Combat Robotics @CombatRobIndia (Pune). I think it looks (😉😂) like a rugged cable/hose reel system marked “for tough conditions”. Anyone know the exact application they’re demonstrating for the Navy? Any guesses? #AtmanirbharBharat @India_iDEX @SIDMIndia @ramesh569108 @alpha_defense @AadiAchint @singhANAGH

Cdr Rahul Verma (Retd) @viking_subs ex #TDAC #NIIO (who was also a trainee under me much earlier in his midshipman tenure) is forever re-skilling himself. I had posted 👇🏻when he had graduated the Executive MBA (IIT Bombay-Washington University in St Louis) programme with top honours. Post his retirement he has done a few stints with the corporate sector and is now again(!) re-skilling himself at the National Test Pilot School (#NTPS), California for the UAS Test Course. linkedin.com/posts/rahul-ver… xitter.cf/arun_golaya/status/167…

Post 3 on #Swavlamban2026. At the @dpropulse stall. Young startup. Good results in quick time. Impressive progress on what is probably India’s first indigenous air-breathing Rotating Detonation Engine. They hot-fired a 5 kN class RDE (with aerospike) at DRDL earlier this year, reaching TRL-5. IIT Madras-incubated, led by @SJha1618 & Dr Ramanujachari (CTO, former DRDO, scramjet expert). Compact, higher-efficiency propulsion with real potential for high-speed munitions and UAVs. Huge potential for collaboration with other startups and even DPSUs. #AtmanirbharBharat @indiannavy @SIDMIndia @sriramthg
