Thoughts on NU loss to Iowa
-Nicco played fine. Chiles might have helped but Iowa’s defense is elite
-NU’s KO unit is bad. KO is most important ST & it’s been bad for two years
-OL/DL aren’t at the level of an upper half Big 10 team.
I’m not going to be overly critical of Chip. But has Northwestern run a screen pass to a RB all season? You know defenses are going to heat up your weak OL. A screen pass to a back is pretty much an auto call at that point and we’ve never seen it.
Thoughts on @NUMensBball win over Stony Brook:
-Hope Gill has a Barnhizer like career trajectory
-Defense is actually been decent but struggles to close out possession with defensive rebounds make it an issue
-West & Pratt very solid guards
-Center position needs work
In 2020 @NUFBFamily used a ball-hawking defense led by All-American Safety Brandon Joesph and a career day from running back Jesse Brown to comeback from down 17-0 and defeat Iowa.
Okay. What do we need to do to take the injury curse off of Northwestern Athletics? Because this is getting ridiculous!
Trying to decide what was the best start by an @NUFBFamily backup QB. I think it's Mike Kafka in the Metrodome in '08. Andrew Marty at Illinois in '19 also makes the list. Could say Colter to open the season at BC in 2011 but I would consider him & Persa co-starters that year.
Need this energy from Nicco as he makes his first @nufbfamily start on Saturday. He led West Virginia to a win under similar circumstances. It won't be easy but this is exactly why NU made the effort to bring him this past offseason.
.@NUMensBball preps for Stony Brook tomorrow evening. Last time NU hosted Stony Brook it was in the old Welsh-Ryan and it was John Shurna and Drew Crawford getting it done to lead NU to the victory.
I’ve said for years that ⚪️🟣⚪️ is @NUFBFamily’s best uniform combo. Awesome to see it back for the first time since September 23, 2023 vs Minnesota.
When NU is recruiting defensive linemen this offseason and they visit the recruiting lounge at New Ryan Field I hope the coaching staff points to Adebawore's picture and highlights his NFL salary. nitter.gq/MikeGarafolo/status/21…
The #Colts and DL Adetomiwa Adebawore have agreed to terms on a two-year, $35 million extension that includes a $13 million signing bonus and $22.5 million in new money through 2027.
Adebawore, 25, cashes in on a breakout season in a deal negotiated by @kenny_zuckerman of @PrioritySports that gives him a chance to hit the market again in his mid-20s.
Thoughts on @NUMensBball season opening win vs Binghamton
-Winning is fun
-Jack Karasanski is a knock-down shooter. Something last year’s team didn’t really have
-Colin Smith got limited minutes coming back from injury but he seems impactful Has a B1G type frame to play Defense
Thank you @CFBONFOX for respecting Northwestern enough to put them on national TV four times this season. CBS & (real) NBC remain allergic to the ‘Cats. Ohio St fans are upset this isn’t on NBC because they get zero night games this year. Including Saturday NU will have had five.
Tomorrow night @NUMensBball opens the regular season vs Binghamton. The Wildcats also opened the regular season vs Binghamton in 23-24 and got a hard-fought win behind Boo Buie's 27 points.
Reality is Northwestern has given up too many big plays on defense all year. They avoided disaster vs weaker teams but regardless of Oregon’s record they got pro-level athletes and when they got chances to make big plays they made them. Also Oregon’s vet DL got to NU’s young OL
Oregon 34 NU 26 thoughts:
-Settling for FGs too often gets you beat
-We all knew the NU’s penchant for giving up big plays and poor DL play would eventually cost them a game
-Chiles using his legs for big plays was good to see
-No excuses but injuries are hurt this team a lot
As one of the most recent additions to the B1G Oregon hasn't matched up with @NUFBFamily very often. Last year's game was a Ducks win but Mac Uihlein made this highlight reel interception for NU.
