Finally a new blog post! This one is about #python and a pattern I use on the daily to deal with heavy inits. Disagree? Leave me a comment!

Looking for a book for the holidays and you are into maths? Then check out the famous essay by Hardy, "A Mathematician's Apology". Really a fun one to read if you like the quirkiness of mathematicians :)

Finally got around to put a new post together, this time about "beautifulsoup4", a Python library for web scraping.

It really is awesome what one can accomplish with Python in a short amount of time!
#python #beer #scraping
I also started a book club, where I will share my notes of books I am reading. The first one is on hacking by @scottjshapiro, find it at oberdieck.dk/book-club/fancy…
@HighsOpt is now on @pypi with "pip install highspy", and you got the best open-source solver at your fingertips.
I think this is great news for everyone who doesn't have a commercial solver available and still wants to do #optimization!

Happy to share that I just joined @mosektw as an Advisory Board Member! Looking forward to working with the other board members and @e_d_andersen!
Careful @gurobi, this title is a bit misleading: "Copenhagen Airport optimized with Gurobi, saving $70M USD", while the text then says "which served as the basis for a set of new investments in stands and gates whose total cost was over $70M USD (400M DDK)."
Savings != Cost ;-)

So here is the part about @GamsSoftware :

I know that benchmarking is difficult, but still, this one could have been done better...
Finally got to put together a few thoughts on how to benchmark solvers, check it out here:
How should I benchmark optimization solvers? (oberdieck.dk)
Also, soon I'l make a post on benchmarking model building code given what @GamsSoftware posted the other day ;-)

After almost 3 years at @gurobi I have decided to move to machine learning and see what that's all about. So I joined @BankingCircle as a Lead Data Scientist where I'll work with cutting-edge ML models actually used in production to prevent financial crime! Let's go!
This will be a fun one. When was the last time the Grinch visited your optimization project?

@Ed_Klotz, @ROberdieck and @siefen are back for a special Holiday Tech Talk! They will investigate examples of Grinch-like behavior that attempt to sabotage the timely completion of the optimization task. Register now: ow.ly/V4Xm50LWkj5
This is really mind blowing!
I recorded a fun video for my coworkers at @getnextmv the other day experimenting with Github Copilot🤖 to solve a knapsack problem using integer programming. It was pretty mind blowing🤯. Anyone else using Copilot for operations research work? youtu.be/bqdJhJ12PT4 #orms
Very nice article by @berkorbay about OR, and I have to say: some of those use cases are really cool. I definitely share your excitement about OR and its future. Thanks for putting this article out there! #or #analytics #ai

Isn't it worth mentioning that a @gurobi VP with 25+ years experience took time out of his day to help a student who is ballpark 25 years old? That was some high quality tech support.
